Default Proboat Shockwave 26 Brushless Conversion

I know a lot of people are going to whine and complain about this forum, but I'm wanting to put the same brushless system that's in the Aquacraft SV 27 into my Proboat Shockwave 26. I'm making this a sleeper boat, if you don't know what sleeper means it means it looks like junk but runs fast. I like the steerable outdrive, unlike most people. It gives nice quick turns. Any suggestions other than don't do it, and please if your gonna be negitive against this thread, then don't post. I don't complain about your boats so don't complain about mine. Thanks.

Had another idea to go along with this, I'm also thinking of the new Traxxas Venilion system, that way I can use it in my rustler is I want to. Also has anyone ever used one of those silicone water jackets for 540 sized motors?

I'm all for your idea[sm=biggrin.gif]

The shockwave 26 is pretty much a match w/the sv27 hull-wise IMO.

I think the SV27 system would work very well in the shockwave26.

I've used those silicon jackets and they work pretty well. The only big flaw is getting them on the motor. I put 2 on a kb45 and my fingers were rubber after that.

I'm for the outdrive too.

Does anybody know how big the motor shaft on the aquacraft brushless motor is? I was just wondering of it was the same size as a standard 540 car motor's shaft. If not then I need to get the motor collet and do you think the collet would mesh onto a soild shaft?

This was my first shot at a brushless boat (see photo), but everyone told me to just buy a SV27. I hate to tell you, but they are right. The hull was just not designed for that kind of speed and the handling suffered. I now own 2 SW27s and my SW26 is sitting in my closet.

What kind of speed were you getting out of the boat? How bad was the handling when you let off the throttle to turn? Just to let everybody know I purchased today all of the stuff to get the project going, I bought the Aquacraft ESC, brushless motor, silicon motor jacket, the water cooling for the ESC, and some other stuff.

My SW27's top speed was in the mid 30s, which is just too fast for that hull. In fact, I kept having to constantly adjust the direction of the boat because of the resulting torque. I too like the outdrives and think that the standard setups look like a Popular Science experiment, but at this scale, I have to admit they work a whole lot better. Once I drove the SV27, which was faster and had no torque condition, I realized that I was just kidding myself and understood that the SW27 could never compete, even as a sport boat. Save your time and money and pickup a SuperVee.

Got all of the electronincs in today and put them in the boat, going to run it in a few. I'll get a picture up as soon as possible, then when I get it all tuned in I'll post a video of this boat and my stepdad's fastech side by side.

So I just got back from running the brushless conversion. It's fast!!! Definatly need to put turn fins on it. At a high speed it has a tendency to washout. I can turn at about 1/4 throttle. Now my question is being an outdrive boat does anyone know how to put turn fins on? Either pointed in following the line of the boat or do you just put them on pointed out like what's on the sv27?

Gonna revive this one, had to have a new motor coupler spun up from steel because the old one one of the set screws stipped. Took the shockwave BL26 and my stepdad took his Forumla Fastech out and the shockwave beat the fastech in a dead drag race. Turning is a different story, I'm still waiting on turn fins made for the fastech from proboat to put on the shockwave. Next trip out were taking a video camera so there is proof of this. I think I've completed my mission of making a boat that I paid $140 for go faster than a $400 boat.

Turn fins are mounted perpindicular to the bottom of the hull / 90 degrees if you were still wondering.

That's what I thought, They are going to be pointing out away from the outdrive. It's a fun boat to drive, I bought a sv27 with no electronics in it and I'm gonna put all of the electonics in this boat into that boat. I'll try to find a brushless package to put back into the the sw26. Thanks for everybody's help.

The SW26 would be better suited to 2s LiPo. If you ran 2s LiPo you could then use that traxxas motor if it's 3600kv.

Yes I had the same problem, your thottle trim is messed up so it won't let the esc arm. Try readjusting the trims and if all else fails maybe you receiver is junk?

Is that the old style shockwave with the rudder or is it the new version with the steerable outdrive?

Yesterday I installed a T-Rex style motor and speed control, used my 5000mah 3cell lipo (little big on the amps!).. used a little smaller prop to make sure no heat isues, and with my geko101 gps hit 25mph.. after 2min motor was warm but esc was hot and shut off for a couple seconds, then I brought it back to shore.. nothing burnt!! Took it out again, worked great. Will try the stock prop but need a smaller 3cell lipo.. Boats Rock!!

A smaller 3 cell LiPo? What is that going to do?

A power system heats up the component(s) that happen to be the weakest link. Here you say the ESC was hot and the motor is warm. I would imagine and assume the pack was pretty cool compared to the ESC.

Installing a lower mAh pack is going to reduce the amount of current you can pull from it. This in turn is going to heat up your pack. Where you may be misunderstanding something is - regardless of how many amps your battery can supply, the motor will only take what it needs on that given voltage. If your pack can supply 100 000 Amps and your motor will only draw 10A, it will only take 10A.

The last thing you want to do is go backwards with the LiPo in terms of rated continuous discharge and cause that to be the weakest link.

The motor determines how many amps the rest of your power system must be able to handle. If your motor is currently pulling 40A and your ESC is rated at 40A, your ESC is the weak link and you must get a higher rated ESC if you wish to run at that level.

In your case you can reduce the amount of heat in your ESC and motor by going with a smaller prop or reducing the voltage. This will reduce the amount of load on your motor. Load on a motor is directly related to current, so in turn smaller load = smaller amount of current drawn. (amps)

Smaller as in less weight.

A 3s pack around 5000mAh is roughly 15oz. The Shockwave is 26" Long. A 15oz battery in a 26" hull is just about near perfect weight for that size.

This boat was designed for a 6 cell NiMh pack which is near the same weight as a 3 cell LiPo. Weight should not be an issue at all, especially with BL power.
