ESC question...

My 60A Mystery non BEC ESC has caps soldered such that I cant use my new water cooling heat sink. So Im looking to buy another ESC.

What size should I get? Anything you guys recommend?

Right now I got a 380 sized 26X68 at almost 3000kV. I might goto the 540S 3200 kV area if this motor doesnt cut it.

11.2 V LiPo is it for me, nothing more.

I didn't mess around and went right for the 120A ESC so I had room to play, I think I am also going to go with a 540L, I don't want to mess around anymore, lol. Can you not make a spacer for your ESC that you have now or perhaps just mount the block right on top of the heatsink? Not the best wat of doing it but still better then no water cooling. I would also use a 38mm prop to start.

i would just do what fhhobbies suggests get a piece of alloy flat bar put transfer paste each side and space the water cooling plate up.3200kv mite be a bit much on 3 cells. orderd the ammo 2300 lastnight hopfully that will liven things up

Ok I got the problem all fixed! Ended up using a piece of 1/16" X 1 X 1 Aluminum bar I had laying around. Sanded it with my 1/4 sheet sander, 300 grit. Just like the water block. Heat greased the FET's except the 4 outer ones, which each got a drop of CA glue. The water block went on with grease and CA with Epoxy over it on the sides. All held together nice now, no heat shrink.

I got everything back together, water lines in.

Trouble is with both Batt's my balance point is where the water exit is! This things a pig now! lol. Im going to try weighing it later. Maybe a run at a smaller quarry. Im questioning it all now. Its just WAY heavy.

I got mine together today with the 120A ESC. I am also going to try a bigger prop like 40mm and two of the 2500 3S packs... you think yours is heavy! lol.

whent for a bit of a squirt today tryed the new 3s 3300 again must say they are the worst batteries i have tryed. they claim 20c but i would say 10c max. so i tryed the new 4s 3700 was worried it mite be to heavy as they weigh 400grams each. the kv of the motor is a bit high for 4s so hopfully the ammo motor will be here this week. but i got to see at last the potential of these boats. it was a rocket

Well Im back, with no video. Couldnt get the woman to go with me.

Anyways...

OMG that thing was an absolute rocket. Thought that video I had was fast... You aint seen anything yet.

On my second small tight lap I took a turn to fast and... Well I ended up upside down. I had to run for a fishing pole, untangle it and got it first try. My hatch tape (clear Electrical) came undone in the front due to hi speed crash. Little water inside the hull, about 1-2 tablespoons. ESC, dry and all.

So I dried the inside and went at it again, since I was only on the water 30-45 seconds maybe.

I got about 1 1/2 mins in. Did some medium speed corners and some full speed straights. Then it puked, again- sorta. Like it would "frog" a bit. I got it in. Motor nice and cool, not even warm. ESC, hot. The glue melted. So its toasted.

All I can say it was wickedly FAST. Oh ya, and my spectators at the quarry were cheering. It was kind of cool...

So now I need a new ESC and I dont get paid til end of month.

120A. What about "etti" brand on E Bay. I missed a 120A navy for about $80ish.

Here would be a good one... http://www.himodel.com/electric/HiMo...00A-OPTO.html# or http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id...3&pid=B1818515 both pistol comp. I like the BP ESCs because I get good price on them!

I took my boat out today with the 2 2500mah packs and it would not get up on the 38mm prop so I put on the 40mm and got up right away and everything stayed cool but the speed was the same, just not fast enough so I am going to upgrade.

fhhobies were are you placeing your batteries i put mine down the sides towards the back made all the diffrence. the 3s batteries i got wich are no good come from swang hobbies (wouldnt normalie bag anyone but they wont replie to emails) they would be good for a plane maybe but not good for boats. the new 4s packs i got are rihno packs (they have the zippy cells) and they are awsome heaps of punch. them himodel speedies are fairly good i have one in my 32" cat wich pulls a 100 amps continues and doesnt even get warm.

I did put my packs on the sides beside the motor and it does ride nicer, but with the very high weight and small motor it's just not fun, lol.

Hi guys. Thought I'd post a video of the Bullet proof (Prince) with the X645 prop on 4s & the Aquacraft Motor & ESC.
See you at the lake Ozzie.

yea iam running 4s. well i have some good news and some bad. good news was the ammo motor is awsome would say i was getting well over 40mph probably closer to 45. i was worried the weight of the batteries would be to much but i think that is the only thing keeping it in the water.did a temp check after 1 minute every thing was nice and cool so i put a x640 on but couldnt tell if it was any faster or not. got to the minute mark and was going to bring in for a check but as i got to about 3/4 of the way down the pond the pond monster got me. what we think happened was the whole motor/batt/servo mount let go wich kicked up hiting the canopy wich went flying as this happended the prop must of stopped turning. that and the mount spat the boat out of the water and both brand new batteries went flying. luckly the hull and the motor/esc survived with out a mark.so its rebiuld time and wait for some new batteries. but i left the worst news till last i didnt get the crash on video [:@]

Ohhh that sucks man! I put in a previous post that the stock ply mount needs to be glued in better as it is not stuck on very well from factory. Anyone that has not glued their ply parts in yet do it now!

Wow its been a long time and I see no new posts!

Ive been out of the game for a few months simply because I couldnt afford another ESC and the programming card.

In a last ditch effort to have some water fun before winter, I ordered the stuff today.

Turborix120A esc and the programming card. I already have a water cooling block...

I also ordered the turn fins as at high speed turning I was higly unstable/spinning out. Im guessing speeds of over 40 mph.

I also ordered a slew of props from them as i dont know whats what by any means...:

Propeller D40*27 Plastic
36*27mm Plastic
36*32mm Plastic
36*30mm Plastic
36*35mm Plastic

Im guessing the 36 is the diameter and the second number is the pitch?

Right now Ive been running the 40 X 1.2 red plastic prop from them. There was black plastic 36mmoneunkown pitch which I removed...

Now to order some shrink wrap and other goodies from OSE and get wet next week!

hey bass. good to hear your back i think your props will be the other way around 36 pitch then dia. iam still running the ammo motor. after catching up with 785boats i now run trim tabs and it handles like its on rails. best prop i have found so far is a detounged x440 it gives me around 40-43mph for 5 laps. i have run a x642 and got a top speed of 47mph but only for a few laps then it drops of. cheers scott
