Motors are not limited by voltage. Motors are limited by current in amps and maximum rotational velocity in RPM. Everything else can be derived.
As long as an appropriate wind is chosen you may run a that specific amount of voltage.

will order it thursday night with water cooling jacket and prop. going to try offshore electrics for the first time dont know what the shipping time will be. do you think 3s 20c 3300 will have enough amp draw capability on that motor. they are the swang cells

Hard to say, I never had a 540S so I'm not sure about the lipos. This mono we have has been a big learning exp so far! Fun though.

THe 540 9L would also work very well on 3s.
I would not use any cells smaller than 4500mAh on a boat larger than 22"
I also would not use a motor smaller than a 540 size can on a boat larger than 22"
You should be able to get away with a 12s on that LiPo depending on how you prop it.

looked at the 9l but mite be a bit to many amps. trying to keep it to one set of cells because of weight as the batt are in front of the motor and will throw the CG way out.
