It's cheaper to go a size up on your ESC and hotmelt glue it to the bottom of the hull. most of the water cooled ESCs are water cooled, but NOT waterproof! Just bung up one end of the heatshrink with bluetack, and fill up from the other end with epoxy resin. Otherwise, a mis-operating ESC can kill your motor and battery.

When choosing your motor, make sure the shaft size is one you can get or make a coupling for. An off centre coupling will cause friction, heat, wasted energy, unstuck parts, a broken motor shaft, and a nasty noise.

do you have any suggestions for a motor im lost on which is the most powerful and how much would be too much but i do know i need a 2.3mm shaft.
and what did you mean with the esc? couldnt you just shrink wrap the watercooled esc? if not what should i do?

If I get one, I will be getting a 380 size brushless motor. It will be less stress on the motor and more power, and I can use it on something else later if I like.

Ryan, I hope you find a stator. But if you don't, you can either repair the one you have or pick up a Graupner mini jet drive. They are pretty cheap.

Elect noob. I don't quite understand the 380 = less stress thingy. I mean light small boat and impeller. Not like we are propping up, etc in a FE boat.

Example, I ran a Mamba 280 size brushless motor in a Mghz Gecko, that is a very small light boat, and you could cook an egg on the motor after the first short run. I know some guys say they are running a 280 size brushless motor and they don't even get warm and that's fine. But for me, I feel more comfortable running a 380 size motor.

Comparison example. If you had a 30" light weight electric boat. In one case you ran a 540 size car motor, it would heat up very quickly. If you ran a 600 size motor it would have much more power and would run cooler. Larger motor equals more power and less strain=more effeciency=longer run times.
Here is my old Gecko with a 380 size Feigao motor in it. This is what I replaced the 280 size mamba motor with. Here is the video.

Amen, brother, Amen![sm=redface.gif] Prop drive boats aren't as persnickety about shaft wobble as direct mount jet drive boats, and so you need to eliminate (balance) all runout that you possibly can. I've been having a time trying to make some cheap Taiwan made couplings work on these hot rodded ABC jet ski's, but recently Jeff Holdt (OSE Forum member) custom made me some and I just got them in. Very high quality - thanks Jeff! Should improve things nicely. I'll keep you posted. Sdg.

On a different note - that other forum I mentioned has a lot of innovative smileys - those cartoon characters you can imbed in your post. But on RCU half of them are sad or mad or unhappy types. We need a computer savvy type person to donate or make some more happy type smileys for this forum's use. Ha! Begood, Sdg.[sm=angry.gif][sm=angry_smile.gif][sm=bananahead.gif][sm=confused_smile.gif][sm=crying.gif][sm=devious.gif][sm=disappointed.gif][sm=eek.gif][sm=frown.gif][sm=idea.gif][sm=omg_smile.gif][sm=pirate.gif][sm=punching.gif][sm=red_smile.gif][sm=sad_smile.gif][sm=stupid.gif][sm=thumbs_down.gif][sm=tired.gif][sm=what_smile.gif][sm=48_48.gif]

Yep, slickest ride plate I've seen in a while. Looks store-bought. I'm curious about the motor blocks - were you getting some flex (movement) with the stock method? And it seems a shame to have something protruding beneath the hull of a jetboat (water pickup) - just something to get hung up or broken off (like a prop!). But it looks like it will get the job done to be sure. Protect that impeller with a grate/mesh and you won't need to make many more impellers. Great pics - please post videos if you can! Sdg
