That would be awesome, I might take you up on that as well, finding couplers seems to be a bit challenging! Right now I have a 4400kV 20mm motor on 2S, it's not crazy but still plenty of fun. I am going to try that outrunner you suggested sundogz, once those replacement drives show up I'll get my Monster boat running and if i like it enough I'll swap the Kal-Gard boat to the same setup.

Hello again, well I did have my boat up and running, but now no go. Ineed to know if I burned my ESC. I doesn't make any beeps and also when I plug the ESC into my reciever, it lights up then slowly fades away. It used to make alot of beeping sounds, like its interlinking or something. So now I can't even bind or know if I'm binded. Any thoughts?

BIG22BIRD, What stator and steering nozzle are you using on your graupner drive? I don't even see it on their web site. What about the motor/esc?

Ran my jetboat for almost an hour straight today, worked awesome! Setup is now:

4400kV 20mm Brushless motor with waterjacket
2x 2S 1800 Lipos paralleled for 3600mAh
Hitec HS-85mg servo
Tekin R1 ESC watercooled

Stock jet drive is holding up fantastic, I've tested a lot of setups in this boat but I've landed here, the twin pack setup balances the boat really well and the motor has plenty of snap to negotiate faster water.

Yes my dogs are retards lol.

Max, it doesn't surprise me. My 2900kv gives similar results, and 4400kvx7.4v=32560 divided by 11.1v (3S) is 2933 - same thing. What does surprise me is those pups don't touch the boat. Good dogs! That snow is a four letter word around here

Haha yeah they get yelled at if they bite them, they mainly just like to chase it. My lab did paw it and send it down the creek upside down about 20 yards before I could catch it. I'm pretty happy with this motor, I've got another one that I'm going to throw in the Monster boat once the pumps show up. If only this creek ran strong all summer I'd be happy, it's about 40 feet from my driveway and probably a good 200 yards I can drive up and down cleanly.

Overall, I'm very happy with the performance in flowing water, I have to remind myself that flatwater isn't where you see the true colors of these boats.

Hey there madrider

I'm not sure how much this will help being in different hemispheres, but I'm sure you can get most of this stuff from the likes of hobbyking etc anyway...

I went for pretty much the cheapest options I could source (without being tooo cheap) and got thismotor, paired with this esc, which caught fire and was replaced with a marine one. Powered by a pair of 1250mAh 15c Lipos(which I had from rc planes). The radio I stole from an old GP car. This is the result.

It's not the classiest setup, and clearly not the fastest, but it goes good, and I've been really happy with the result (apart from the fire - that wasn't a joyous moment)

p.s. BBs 14.8v machine is a beast - and I'm jealous

Motor bolts straight in - 3mm shaft though.

I'd have to say the best (and mostly unhelpful) advice I can give you is: Buy the gruntiest battery you can afford.

5500 is pretty big. Most likely heaps of power but I don't know about the weight. Hopefully some of the other guys running heavier batteries will chime in about now and...

It's funny how many folks say they've read the whole thread, ask for recommendations, then go another way altogether. Similar gave excellent choices for motor, and esc (Seaking). The reason his wasn't that fast was because of his batteries. Pick a 3S Turnigy, Rhino etc. in the 2200 to 3000ma range in the highest 'C' rating you can afford and it will be plenty fast, have long runtimes and last a while before burning anything up. The 4800 is good for RPM's, but not torque and won't last long at all. Use a full-size servo (any cheap brand) and you'll not have problems there. The only thing you'll need to find is a 3mm to 2.3mm coupler, which shouldn't be too difficult.

Madrider.

Here is a list of gear in my boat. It moves along very respectivly. Everything drops in without any adapters. Just a servo mount.

Motor:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8595

ESC:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7360

Radio:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10608

Steering servo:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8303

Lipo:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10278

I use spektrum radio, but the one listed is a cheap / do the job set up.

The lipo gives me over 10 mins run time. Just a nice size without wieghing the boat down to much.

Pics of my boat are on page 79 of this thread, its the green one down the bottom end of the page.

Happy boating.

The coupler that comes in the boat is aluminum and easily honed to size. Chuck it in a drill and use a needle file, drill bit or another abrasive to open it up some. Don't try to 'drill' it (unless you are real good or feel lucky!) as this usually results in an off-center hole and will cause vibration. If you feel unsure about doing it yourself, [link=http://www.rcraceboat.com/]Jeff Wohlt[/link] ([email protected]) can make some for you - I've used him before to make custom couplers and he does a great job.

That 4800 motor doesn't last long in this jet boat, but I agree it's fast and furious when new!

I also found it strange that after 170+ pages of reading one would still not know what to do. There has to be at least 15 different motor options in this thread. Oh well guess im glad there is another boater out there.

thought this was the jet boat thread, guess there is only 70 pages for the nqd thread.
