Default RE: Unofficial

when i first powered it up i did not follow the instructions. i was all excited and i'm sure i messed up the initial settings. I've been trying to hit the restore to factory default setting but it's not clearly described in the instuctions (bad translation). it says to pull throttle down once you hear the desired tones. so i wait til it plays the restore default tune but to keep it in program mode you need to hold the throttle down or it slips out and stops playing the setting tones. so once you hear the tone there's no where to go but throttle release then pull back down. it's supposed to play 2 tones then your setting is saved. it plays 3 tones and there seems to be no change in programming. i suspect an issue with my transmitter is why i can't program properly.

sundogz i think you're very correct on that. I had grub screw on the end of the flat closest to the impeller. that 2 mm change allowed it to slip out of the bushing, but there's damage to the stator as well so i don't know how that could have happened. the shaft did develop quite a bend from all of that thrashing. I didn't catch that it was happening until well after it was too late.

I'm learning oodles, some the hard way for sure. This is starting to get pretty expensive, I'm at around $360 now with the new boat on it's way. BTW xenonproject.com now has both yellow and white in stock if anyone is interested. if you buy $100 worth of their 'toy guide' items (mostly cheap nqd boats and helicopters) and live in the states you get $5 ground shipping. so now would be a good time to buy 3 boats and maybe resell a couple.

Yeah, the damage to the stator was from pieces of broken impeller after hitting the sides of the pump. On the esc programming, I know just what you're saying. Some you go to center to enter, some you push forward (brake) and so on. But stick with it, you'll figure it out. What's bad is when you get wrong instructions from the factory. I recently bought [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__15133__Hobbyking_SS_Boat_Series_125A_ESC.html]this esc [/link]from HK, and the throttle option is supposed to have 4 settings: Auto, 1.1 to 1.8ms, Hard (acceleration), and Soft. But the beeps indicate only three options are available! And I've tried all 3, but always get soft acceleration. The manufacturer hasn't supplied the retailer with the (updated) instructions, so I'm stuck for now.

I'm sure i'll figure it out with patience. I'm torn about wether to order a new boat for the jet drive unit and shaft./impeller for $40+$26 shipping or just get a graupner mini jet for $30+ shipping. would be pretty cool i think.

If you can find a Graupner it will wind up costing you the near price of a boat after shipping. If you read back through this thread, an outfit in Australia was selling replacement jet drives on ebay.au 6-8 months ago, and may still have some. The search function on this site isn't working for me or I would try to find that info for you. I bought two from them and they are identical to the NQD drives.

I just got mine a couple days ago and gave it a try and it sucks stock Time to upgrade what do you guys think of these:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...00kv_300w.html

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._Boat_ESC.html

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Lipo_Pack.html

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...3kg_0_17s.html

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...Ch_Tx_Rx_.html

Also do you make the hole on the bottom of the boat bigger then add a better screen or leave the hole the same size? Also where would I buy an adapter for the motor 3mm to 2.3mm? Will the stock jet unit stand up to this motor I want to buy?

I want to order this stuff but want to make sure it will be pretty fast and good run times. Thanks for all the help guys.

I just want to chime in on the 3500-3900kv with 3s discussion again...

We went out to a nice river on the weekend... and ran the boats... all the guys were on 3s... and without question my son's 3900kv with 60amp esc on 2200mah 11.1v was the fastest. So I'm not too sure on the making more noise and not going fast... as the thing was nuts!!!! I ran my 3900kv on a 2s for a bit... had just barely enough power to overcome the river... but it was nice and smooth to surf!! So my own personal conclusion is... run 3500-3900 on 3s and you'll have a ton of fun... you just have to harness the power!!

Here's a youtube vid of sunday... the first boat you see is the all blue one... it's my 5yr old son's... and he's the only one driving it (the little guy in the rain jacket and matching rubber boots!) I'm a proud papa!!! My boat is the Black Top, White Bottom boat. (and that's me dumping the water out of my gum boots... went waist deep recovering the odd boat)

Yes, I've seen this video - 4Mods had posted it earlier. And that is fast! But we're not comparing oranges with oranges here. You forgot to mention a very important factor - that you are running a 28mm motor. The 20mm motors in that rpm range can't produce that kind of torque and tend to reach a point of no return when running 3S over about 3000kv or 2S over 4500kv. But that does blow a hole in my theory of 'just so much water can be pumped by this jet drive". Obviously more water CAN be pumped - get a bigger motor! Thanks for bringing this to light - you have started something here and a lot of people will be grateful for this info.

Check this out - a replacement [link=http://www.ebay.com/itm/NQD-Tear-Into-Jet-Radio-Control-Boat-JET-Propeller-System-including-Steering-/320763070471?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item4aaef80807]jet drive[/link] available on ebay for $18! Thought you'd like that!

RC jet boat....finally found one on sale
Been lookin for 1 of these 18" R/C NQD Jet Boats for a while now,
and found this website ...$40, plus $27 usps shipping to Canada = $67
Wiped the blue stars off with Brakeclean ( some thinners melt the plastic )
bought $5 worth of decals, and after running it for 10 minutes on a nearby
pond with the stock 9.6v 700mah battery, put an 11.1v 3s 1300mah lipo
in out of my F-16 EDF jet ... Night and Day power difference !

I used this site for the coupler i first got. they're really good and the shipping is reasonable. the gruapner mini drive is $33. http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/...upner_jet.html

I ordered the replacement drive off of ebay, shipping only $2 can't complain! this is a much cheaper option and a lot less than i was expecting to spend, HOORAY. Thanks a lot for the link, I'm stoked for it to arrive.

I have wanted one of these boats for a while, but seems like most people replace the jet drive. Is it necessary to replace the jet drive even when upgrading to a 2200-2600kv brushless motor? I found the same website as yamaha74 did and for the money, I think I'm finally going to get one to mess with. This wont be mu first boat or build, but it will be mu first jet boat. So just looking to keep it simple and learn from it like I did with cats and monos.

There's no need to replace or remove the jet drive. It's the motor that need replacing. The stock unit is anemic.

I took mine out in stock form once and well I'm nodding it now. I have the motor and ESC on order. Will order the rest soon. Here is some pics of the paint job so far.
I will be painting it primer red first then blue then green. I will then scuff it up and make it look beat up. I did it with one of my crawlers (see pic) and it turned out nice.

Hi All,
New to the Jet Boating... And have been admiring some of the work done to them. I just got it and love the look and size of it. However I have a dilemma. When i took the top off I noticed the battery compartment is moulded in to the next layer of plastic. But when i see others post there is no moulded plastic section it is the inner hull. So have people just cut the moulded section out. Or have I got a different series of boat that includes the moulded section.

No they all look like that from the factory. you have to cut them out yourself. but dont do like i did and cut them out incorrectly. i had to order a new boat because i didnt do it right. someone posted a guide with pics on how to do it in this thread somewhere.

Yep as stated above they all come like that. Just cut it out and leave some on the side so the cover will have something to sit on. Then put foam on that part so when you put the cover on it will be somewhat water proof. Look back in this thread for pics with it cut out to give you an idea where to cut it.

I used a sharp knife and heated it with a torch until it was red hot, than it cuts through the plastic very easy. Once it cools down and its harder to cut just heat it up again. Its like cutting warm butter with a hot knife

Well I've just got all my parts together and tub tested it! The power is immense, could barely hold it properly.

However, like most people say... The dog joint couple well... melted and blew up. So does anyone know of any good replacements that wont melt?

I'll get some pics asap!

I prefer a metal coupler to the u-joints because they last. The stock one is barely long enough when you upgrade the motor. Aren't you running a Graupner jet? And what is the size of your motor shaft?

I'm looking for a coupler 2.3mm to 3.17 for this motor [link]http://www.hobbypartz.com/07e-c-sl-10t-2848-blue.html[/link]. Anyone know where I can get one or should I just drill out the stock on?

Thanks
