Unofficial "NQD" Tear into Jetboat Thread

Demon, the name [link=http://walkera.en.ec21.com/Brushless_Motor_380M1158694_1158700.html]Walkera[/link] is the link. You can buy them cheap enough on ebay, but they may be cheaper elsewhere. I wrote FE (fast electric), but meant [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_109/tt.htm]Speed Electric[/link] forum, sorry. I'll have to leave your last question to Aum-Offshore!

You CAN power the reciever on any channel - you probably allready do this without knowing it by hooking up the esc on other channels (assuming that your esc has a bec) I have done it many times before on my larger boats and multicopters.

RE: Unofficial
Hello sorry to bump but isn't this sticky? I know this boat is not a Tear Into..... Close but better. I've found myself a Jet Sprint!
Unfortunately it has no electronics so I need to get some.
What ESC, Motor (and a cooler for it and perhaps a brushless motor) and lipo's do you guys recommend ? It would be helpful if you added links.
Also I might need some radios and servos but I will have to see what is in the boat (there is a servo + drive in the boat, that's it.)

RE: Unofficial
i will get pics tonight since the paint died lol. here is an under hood hot for ya
\
here is how it was
it will come with 2 3s 2200mah batteries, extra connectors. everything except a rx, and an extra boat. the only problem is i used the impeller from the new boat since mine got killed before the grate was made.

Soldered the Y-harness and motor connectors onto my ESC today, then tested it in the river just now.
It ran beautifully - better than ever in fact. The tiniest of changes on the controls translated to clearly audible changes in the RPM. It was like driving a completely different boat.
Advice for new builders: Don't skimp on your ESC. I bought the cheapest Chinese ESC I could find that met the motor specs; it wasn't until I tried a higher quality one that I realised the (massive) difference in control.

RE: Unofficial
Right so i've picked my electronics I just want to check to see if this will work well.
Here are the links to what I might be using (excluding the servos and rx):
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11954 lipo
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8593 motor or http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...idProduct=8594 I think #1 is probably better but I'm not sure.
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7360 esc
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11444 charger
Will this work, and if so will it work well?
Please reply.
James.

RE: Unofficial
From now on I'll always ask first:Which is more fun, to build or ride?
Builders would never go the 'easy' way with motors with the right sized shaft (2.3mm). If it is tweakable, then it has to be tweaked!
Riders pick hardware for the task and ride the crap out of it!Ithink. At least Ido Ibought thismotor which bolts straight on without modifications and I plan to buy another one when it runs hot.Which hasn't happened yet although I run it without cooling.
I spend a lot of money on other boat-build-projects and when they crash fatally Ipick out my Tear Intos and have a blast at the pond with a couple of mates.

Ride!
Edit:
Anyway back to my question above what do you think about that set up.
Will it work for a start, how well and if there is a way to get the same performance but with less money?

RE: Unofficial
I'd say both motors are a bit on the expensive side, maybe a bit overkill as well. The motor Ilinked to gives more than enough power(350w) and rpm (3k is enough really, not much happens during the last 400kv with 3s). That one works with the cheaper 35Ampjust nicely, and the best of all, no modification is needed, just plug 'n ride. There's also that Walkera-motor which is quite popular, I'm sure you can find it on eBay for ten bucks or similar. Cheers.

Hdgby, I agree with Speedaemon, that is all overkill in this boat. It is more suitable for a 24-30" boat to be sure! Try the outrunner or the Walkera so you can bolt it right in. And you'll be able to use a smaller esc as well. That battery and charger is fine, but don't forget a [link=http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6477]power supply[/link].

RE: Unofficial
Thanks, yeah 'bit overkill and too much $, thanks for the advise.
I got a power supply, it's good very versatile i use it for my 450 heli and it suits these boat bats too.
Also hqdby was just a random bunch of letters, because all the names I wanted to use are taken etc... (I'm actually James)
I'm having trouble finding a link to the walker or the outrunning do any of you know one?
What shaft size is the Graupner jet sprint/what jet does it use? Is it the same?
