Not sure if you saw any of the clips I posted on YouTube (which are now unavailable) - They are all running the stock unit.

Hello new to the forum. Thought I would try a new hobby instead of paintball. I just received my two jet boats that I ordered for my son and I. I have read almost 50 pages of this thread. Lots of great pictures to help my build. I have a couple of question about watercooling of the motor. I'm trying to find the best set up as far as motor, esc, servo. I will have to order two set of everything. Here are a couple things I'm looking at to order.

Motor
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8595

ESC
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=7377
do I need this to be water cooled?

servo
I'm not sure about this yet. maybe something waterproof.

batteries
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=8934

Battery charger
Not sure aboutthis one yet.

controller
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10608
this is the only one I found on here, but it seems a little cheap. I will look around for a better one

Just looking to see what people think. I don't want to order stuff that won't work. Just want to make one order and start the build. If you hoave a better part that would work please let me know. I will finish read the rest of the thread. Thanks

Your on the right track man. Find a little lower kv motor if you want to run 3 cell packs and try to find a pack with a higher C rating, those are 25c and would work but will puff over time for sure. The esc you picked is great and the radio I use in a bunch of my rc without issues.

This is all based if your hulls are the nqd tear into it hulls.

I would recommend water cooling the ESC, and so does the manufaturer.

Yes they are the tear into. I picked that motor because it has the watercooling and it looks like a hassle to wrap your motor. What motor would you suggest. Should I try a 2 cell batteries with a higher c rating? Thanks alot.

Good
ESC
Radio

Change
lower KV motor. This is one I looked at but it's not watercooled. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=4194
Batteries. something like this? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14487

Thanks I just don't know what to order.

If I used that watercooled motor should I use 2cell batteries?

If you're going to go with a cheaper radio, this one looks like it is much higher quality.

Thanks. I could only find the one radio on the site. I will start the strip down tonight and paint it first.

If I get 2s do I still need a higher C rating? I will get some 2s and some 3s.

Yeah, these boats will just destroy your batteries if they are lower then 30c I find. That motor looks good along with that other radio but I have no issues with the GT2 either though.

Have you tried 2P setups with a Y-harness?

I have seen a couple of the guys run 2, 3 cell pack in parallel and the boat ran great. I stick with one battery inside, I have plenty of time to change out packs and it doesn't take long.

I run a 3S2P config, not for battery life, but because the existing plane batteries I owned were only 15c. Running 2P that becomes 30c.

I had some issues with the motor cutting out, and the battery getting hot with my first build attempt. Took me a while to work out that at 15c, the voltage drop across the battery on full load (30A esc) would trip the LiPo protection on the ESC. I made up a y-harness, added another battery, took it out for a try and - Hey! Problem solved.

No doubt, good thinking and beauty save for getting more use out of those packs.

What would be a good servo to get? Should I get a waterproof one? Has anybody tried one of these brackets http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=11775.

Thanks for all your help. I just want to make sure I order the right stuff the first time.

I've had pretty good luck just shoe goo'ing in my servo on the stock tray. Just set it up with your radio on and trim it up then unplug and let the glue set.

I run everything from a futaba s3003 to the traxxas waterproof ones. I find as long as you waterproof it you will be fine. Water will always get in these, no matter what I find if running creeks and falls.

How much water are we talking here?

I'm planning to seal it very well. The water systems are still frozen around here, so i am just going to take my time and do everything very clean and make sure there are as little entrances for water as possible.

I have a couple people ordering these already, so maybe with time there is hope for a little club here??? I just showed a buddy of mine 4mods youtube videos and he was sold on one!

A guy I know from youtube over in Australia is running auto bailers with really good luck so perhaps using one of those will help your woes on water. I just leave a couple holes open in the rear top of my boats and just empty them every now and then. Like after a good rapid roll about.

Thats so great to hear about the vids getting people stoked man, thanks!!

<o></o>

I saw that one guy on here has a sponge in the boat to soak up the water.

As i think i mentioned in a PM to you on youtube, I am hoping to make it self righting using floats on the roll cage to make it unbalanced in the water when it is up side down. So that may help with the water issues a bit.

[link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2]This servo[/link] is very strong, fast enough and cheap. Fits right on the stock mount with tape/ shoe goo.

Like energy said, that 4800kv motor with the waterjacket will do fine on 2S. And you want a high C rating like [link=http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=9946]this one.[/link] Or you can get a higher mah for longer runtime. A 5000 is not too big for the boat, but adds some weight.

motors
http://www.nitrorcx.com/07e-c-sl-12t-2040-blue.html

ESC
http://www.nitrorcx.com/07e-c-seaking-60a.html

Radio's
http://www.nitrorcx.com/fs-gt2-24ghz-radio-black.html

Batteries
4 or these http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10293
2 or these http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10274

servo
I still have to find one

charger
I will just pick one that I read about

for the water pick up in the back of the stator do you buy a kit for it or do you just make something out of brass tubing? I will post up some picks once I paint it.

Just a thought about trying to make one of these boats self righting. I don't know that it can be done. The design of the hull is wrong to start with. I have one boat that is self righting a Mhz Gecko. It is a mono and has to be balanced right with the battery on the left side. It also uses the torque of the motor along with how the balance of the inards inside to torque roll itself upright. Other boats (all mono's) can also be made to be self righting using a flood chamber on the left hand side. The flood chamber then rolls the hull back to right side up. I would not think that flotation alone would make this hull self righting if at all. A flood chamber might on this hull but has never been tried as far as I know. The other problem that arises is that because of the counter action of the stator there is little to no torque roll action from the motor. Most jet boat hulls are wider with less depth to them. Some of the 1:1 extreme jet boats that you can see on Youtube that run the extreme rapids also have a rounder hull design making them tougher to roll over in the first place. Usually a jet boat won't flip unless striking a object in the water, shore, another boat, etc. So with that said I will eat my words if a tear into becomes self righting by only attaching flotation to the roll bars. I mean this only as information and not to be critical.

Also I always install a drain hole in any boat I have. I also make a drain plug for it by buying fuel line plugs for nitro or gas airplane engines and then putting a small piece of cooling tubing over it. I then drill a hole just a bit smaller than the plug with the tubing on it so that it is a snug fit. That way I have the drain hole when I need it, but if it flips over it won't fill with water right away.

Wonder if anyone thought about converting a few to resale.
Tempted to get back into collecting rc boats but limit myself.
I use to have way too many. Most were based on looks rather than quality.

Yes there was a guy that was trying to sell them as an upgraded package, but at the time it seemed he wanted a arm and half a leg for one and wasn't overly concerned whether he sold any or not. Don't know if he is still around doing that or not.

Well, I'll still give it a try and see what comes of it. If it does work, there won't be any down river chases.

If the capsuls on the roll cage doesn't do the trick. I'm sure i can figure something out with a ballon pried under the roll cage. Would just have to scrap the divers.

I like this, now i have something to work for. NEED TO MAKE SELF RIGHTING!

Hey guys I had the first ever Jet boat comp that I know of today and it went off really well. I did time trial courses and everyones rides did quite well. I will be throwing a video together later and the winners were not the fastest boats at all!

ps: I won... lol, using my white boat with Graupner drive. WHOOHOOO!
