Default Mmmm.. finally looking at my 29" delta knock off... need a little help

Ok went through the search/advanced search stuff, didn't seem to find what I was looking for. I could have sworn I book marked one thread I came along but can't find that either. I have all the stuff for my 29" delta knock off from china, anyways looking for some interior photos of how to setup, am intending on doing flood chamber on left too... so I'm sure this will change things a little. Setup is surface, feigeo 1680rpm/kv, ose flex drive and outside stuff
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=ros-monosys
, with one turn fin on right side
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=dh-aqub9515
. Ummmm.... esc 60amps.... pretty basic.

Hopefully someone has seen a thread or photos on this sort o build. Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Ok first few images, drilled holes in back for main prop mount... now need to research where L bracket for rudder goes, I think it was 1.25 or 1.5" to right of prop. Not sure how high either as it didn't come with instructions. Sorry about the flash washout on a couple images, this cam is good for video, not so for photos unless it's in complete sun light.[]

Whoops sorry this the turn fin set I got.

http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...d=ose-monofins

Now just researching right fin placement... put in the rudder and prop shaft holder thingymajig, just lightly held on so I can do water test for making flood chamber. Which means attaching everything... will get to that maybe tomorrow depending on how far I get. Need to epoxy wood for transom and the stringers. So that will add 4 hours, in which I get to figure out motor and batt placement. Anyone able to tell me how wide these wood stringers are supposed to be placed?

Well after researching it seems that the teflon tube actually produces more resistence than having the flex drive lie directly on the brass tubing. So will have to hit hobby store to figure this out. Also finally opened my little connector to connect motor to flex drive. The motor side has threads and no set screw drilled. %#^%. So going to take it to machinist and get it bored out and set screw added. So two issues to deal with.[&o] Will show some pics in a bit.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7713767/tm.htm

I think there was a 29" version available also. we have the 25" here.

That moto seems to have an awful low kv rating. Were all around 3,000kV the closer the better. Im a noob though so i could be totally off base. But that motor looks to be to slow and the ESC to small.

I fried a 60 A ESC with a 28x68 380 sized 8 turn motor around 3000 kv.

The kv of the motor all depends on the amount of cells planned to be used. Without this information there is no such thing as too low or too high kv.

Ivan
The stringers can be placed at what ever width you wish. Some mounts work in a 3" spacing while other mounts work in a 4" or other. Determine the motor mount you wish to purchase and space the stringers apart according to the dimension needed for the motor mount.

I'm also not sure what you mean by no set screw drilled? I always take my motor and grind a flat spot for the set screw to make contact. This is performed easily with a dremel.

Hey Ivan;

I picked up a 33" version of the same hull 2 months ago. Its really a very stable boat and runs around the 50 MpH mark on 4S and a 1521 Neu.

I took it to Wellsley at the end of September for the races and none of the gas/ nitro guys could keep up!

You will like this hull

Thanks guys, I had looked at the ********* link before. Stringers I guess look the same. Motor mount will be made out of aluminum some time today. Sorry ryan, am expecting to run 4s. As for the set screw connector, it's from sv27 as the dimensions were right. After looking at it, it would seem the either the shaft on the sv27 motor is threaded or it's using one o the airplane connectors that has thread for the nut and prop. Anyways I don't like how it is and wish to reduce rotating mass, so that's why I want to bore it out and make it a traditional set screw setup. 20min and will have photos. Hey doby, I get this done perhaps we'll have to go out and see how the two compare.

I guess one last question that I can think of... theres more than enough flex drive that I can put the motor half way inside the boat then batteries across a little platform at the back. But I've been thinking perhaps to shorten the flex drive as much as possible to decrease resistence.

My idea on shortening a good idea? If so what's the minimum shortening I can do? I figure around 4" from transom. Photos up in 20min.

Doby I'm going to have to convince ya to make a jet drive boat sometime, always liquid somewhere! Ok here's pics... think I'm going to make mount first before doing up stringers.

The third photo is the coupler, see how it has threads in it? Bugger, and it came with a set screw?! ***? No place to stick it though.

Found another issue, the ... drive dog I believe, can slide all the way in the ... crud.. the tube that shoots out the back. Are all the prop sizes around the same thickness, ie I need so much shaft for prop to sit on plus a little extra space as the prop tightens the flex line?

Ryan since ya seem to be top guy for asking about the motor/setups, you have a base prop idea that I should use? Am thinking of buying the prop now and then it will be easier to determine everything. Little nervous to cut flex till I get this figured out. Just to reiterate, expecting 4s powering this motor. Ahhh crap looks like UH pulled the motor... here's name though. Feigao 540-15L 15T 1640kv Brushless

btw ryan what kind o amps can I pull with this bad boy?

That is the flex coupler for the SV motor. - 5mm shaft

I wouldn't worry too much about resistance in a longer flex drive. Less flex will be less resistive but you probably would not notice it too much. I'd be more concerned about achieving the proper CofG. Sometimes this is made easier by placing the motor ahead or behing the packs.

For a prop, you should be able to spin a 40mm prop to start with. Check heat frequently and if all runs cool begin to increase prop diameter.

The 15L motor is a very mild wind. You will most likely be pulling around or less than 35A or so with the above prop. Once you begin increasing in diameter you may be able to pull up to about 50A continuous with full w/c.

Yea that's the exact coupler I got, same place, but there's no hole for the set screw as in the picture and the inside of the same piece has threads in it. Am wondering now if they forgot to drill it out and put the set screw in it...[:@]. That blows. Will try to get coupler fixed and see if local hobby store has a 40mm in stock before cutting the flex.

Oh yea ryan do I need a few mm spacing for flex drive to tighten? Or do they now stay the same length under torque now.

Ahhhh screwed again! No metal octura at either shop... F$%. Although they do have plastic graupners... I don't want to drive to burlington or oakville!!! flkjfdsal

Don't drive to Burlington unless you call first, they have a lot of nothing. I haven't been in there because of that. Not sure if you bought raw props before but they do need to be sharpened, thinned, and most importantly balanced.

It sounds like you have the nitro version of the SV coupler. This does not use a set screw as nitro engines use a 5mm threaded crank.

For stub shaft spacing use the thickness of the flex. If you run .150" flex space the drive dog .150" from the stinger. The flex cable will shorten under load.

MmM.. doby might take you up on it. Will try this first, was going to machine shop to have thing thrown on lathe, I could do the set screw at home here with press... but going to try attaching this to motor and spin her up and slowly grind her out to proper size. Have done before this way, just not anxious as it hasn't turned out too. Need to get a lathe.[] Yet another tool...

Thanks ryan for the dimensions. Didn't realize burlington wasn't that good. Which shops do you use?

Yea u must be right on the nitro version of coupler, still why would they send set screw if no where to put it?

I have a balancer and have done one prop for mini jet drive. Haven't done a bigger prop though, will see how much fun this is going to be.

www.offshoreelectrics.com

Takes about a week to get to my door from day after order date. Decent prices, and good availability. Anything north of the border seems to be just about useless.

Go with a plastic prop if you can't find a metal prop. They are cheap and will work until you receive a metal one.

What the hell[:'(], the one rc shop had octura prop I was looking for. x645. Sometimes I wonder about the two shops we have here. I like flight craft, but still customer service for both ain't that great unless your dealing with airplanes. Installed all hardware on the boat. Now I'm thinking about motor mount. I was going to install stringers tonight but my buddy said to make mount first then put the stringers in with mount. Anyways was looking at the motor and the cooler I still need to buy(30 bucks for coolers from ose? seems expensive, although I'm sure it's worth it). So plan is to go to metal supermarket find a 2" piece of 2" aluminum square tubing, cut one of the walls then add motor and stringers.

Boat will be ready tomorrow but won't have A. cooler and B. flood chamber.

Tomorrow's todo list, balance/sharpen prop, make motor mount, cut flex, bend brass, mount motor stinger, fix coupler, pop batt and receiver take her out for spin with gps. Short runs. Maybe look at flood chamber tomorrow, will see.[:-]

Sounds good, will be there, hopefully it doesn't look like this right now![:@] Woke up to this, was half expecting it to freeze a couple days ago but it's been so windy, it hadn't a chance to do so.[X(]

btw your talkin about the pond with a squeeze in the middle right?

Behind house, near laurel creek park. NW waterloo. Btw can't really run on this storm water pond, deepest part is 4ft, straight back and it's only 50ft long and wide. Rest o the pond is 12" or less... broke so many props on it, that's why I converted to jet drive.
