Nice work! It looks like a long build. Keep the pics coming as you progress.

Thanks for the compliments.
I almost completely finished planking both sides of the hull. It slowly begins to take shape. I also ordered some 1mm ply for the next layer of planking.

HI!
Sorry for the big delay, life intervened. No new pictures yet.
I bought the fiberglass cloth (110g/m2) to reinforce the hull, ordered the 30 min epoxy, should be here any day.
Soon I will be posting new pictures showing the glassing process.

Hi!

Here are some new pictures showing the current state of the boat. Not much glassing done yet. I began planking the bottom of the hull with the ply. Glassed the inside of the front section of the sponsons.

Hi!

I finally began planking the underside of the hull with the 1.5mm ply. I bent the ply over ethanol flame prior to gluing it in place. I used 5min epoxy, and used the "modified" old credit card to evenly spread the glue on the ply. It came out pretty good, still I had to use pins and weights to fit it nicely.
I was also fiberglassing the inside of the hull, I used 2 component varnish to wet the woven glass fiber, but I haven't done any pics of that. [sm=sad_smile.gif]

Default RE: Norbert's 1.1m balsa cat build

I wanted to avoid cutting more than one opening on the hull, due to water sealing issues. Still I can't fit the motors from the main hatch opening, this design doesn't allow it, but I didn't wanted to alter (weaken) the construction. SO I had to come up with an engine hatch solution. Like on the big cats. he he. I was thinking a lot how to make the hatch big enough to easily reach for the motor, ESC, flex shaft coupler etc. yet make it watertight. And since it's not going to be open very often, I want to make it very stealth. So it doesn't really show from the outside.

I will use M3 Hex head SS bolts and self locking nuts to secure the hatch cover. 6 pieces for each hatch. Rubber or silicone sealing ring will go around the opening lip. I plan to build up the whole console first and when everything is fine, I'll glue the whole thing in the hull. Fingers crossed!

Here's what I came up with, and please forgive me for my drawing skills

Here's today's progress in pictures:

First I laminated two pieces of 3layer 1mm ply together, but sandwiched a sheet of woven glass fiber (110g/m2) in between them.
Then I draw the hatch opening on a piece of paper first which I later transferred onto the wood sandwiches.
Haven't cut the hole out yet. I want to let the epoxy cure till tomorrow.

!wow! How did you draw the shape of the hatches so well did you use a computer print out and trace or did you free hand.

I only used a ruler, a small front piece of a pen, to draw nice circles, and freehand, as I stated earlier. I first drew it on a piece of thin cardboard then cut the shape with a knife to get a template. Then laid the template on the ply and copied the shape over.

I began making the water jacket for the motors yesterday. I used woven glass fiber for the first 3 layers so to speak, then I added 2 more layers of woven carbon fiber today. It's beginning to take shape, and it's very strong already, although the epoxy didn't finish curing.

How do you make one out of carbon-fiber and how does it keep it cool.

Motor slides into this jacket, 2 rubber o-rings seal both ends, and water go in and out (inlet and outlet not yet made, therefore not in the picture) between this jacket and motor can.
Look here to see one that's finished: http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...ead.php?t=6697
