brushless motor heating up.
i have a toyabi mini sea predator , brushless , just installed a new venom motor and the jacket is on and lines are hooked up but at the end of a little run in my pool the motor is almost too hot for me to touch... maybe its cause in my pool im constntly going , stopping turning around and going again....
maybe cooling system is blocked...?
pretty sick of this boat and water leaking into it and all this crap.
the space between the steering linkage and the main metal part ( ??lol) is way too small to fit a bellow on.
dam chinese boats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i am seeing red!

chill out sav and dont worry, we all get like this when things are'nt going right
what kv motor is in it ?
what size battery are you using ?
is the prop to big ?
are the lines to long or pinching anywhere ?
i had the same problem with a control link, i just stuck the bellow on and pulled it through more on the inside
i suggest stripping the boat and sorting out all the leaks, just tape over all the holes where the hardware is because you know thats one problem, you'll find all the other leaks then and fill with hot melt glue or epoxy, when you put the hardware back on seal the nuts with hot melt glue or epoxy

the motor is 3350 kv.
im using a 3s 1000 mah 10c battery
lines are all clear.
prop is stock size
i have a funny feeling its the stopping and going but it shudnt be this bad...
i migt bend the linkage up then across then back down so it sits away then run a bellow on it...

can you make the servo horn travel further than it does, some transmitters have a dial that you can adjust the travel on certain components, with the servo travel you can make the rudder steer more sharply (tighter turns) or less sharply (wider turns) if you can make it turn sharper then you may be able to go near flat out and see how it goes

if your sea predator has the same type of rudder/strut as its larger cousin you need to block the water pickup at the bottom of the strut and add a separate one.
the water pickup runs water threw the strut it self causing two major problems.
first the water runs over the prop shaft removing any grease/lubricant,secondly it forces water straight up the stuffer tube.
if you add a secondary water pickup you will get much more water cooling,also yes stop starts add huge amounts of unnecessary heat.

hey sav
you can use a simple piece of brass tube attached to the transom to pick the water up
or as i have done
bend some small aluminium tube into a horse shoe shape exiting out the bottom of the hull next to the inside of the sponson at the back, i have 2 pickups, 1 for the esc and 1 for the motor

i see his water pick up but it still gets me how water goes thru lines and a jacket with no pump , just free flowing through[]
wouldnt there be some resistence and need force to go thru

esc beep beep and motor jolts then the esc starts to heat up sitting there.
i just got a new esc and motor. spent all my money on it now this.
youve got to be fu##ing kidding me right?

can you take some photos or the rudder blade please, especially where its mounted
i just thought that maybe you can buy a new rudder with a water pick up on it and swap the blades over
the replacement would have to be the same length blade

condidering your hull has a ski (lower parts on transom either side of strudder) you could mount one of these http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...od=dh-aqub9520
or even make your own. its basicly just a piece of brass tube the end that sits in the water is cut at a 45 deg angle to pick water up easyier, you just mount the tube vertical of the transom so the angled piece of tube is just in the water when hull is running at speed.
have a look at picture #2 in the link you will see what i meen. i would block they origonal hole with somthing you dont want water in there.

if you have a look at pauls pic you will see he is useing the same tube cut at 45 deg but he has mounted it behind the prop
what this does is when the prop is spinning the water from the the roost is forced up the tube (lots of nitro boats done this way so they can run the motor and still get cooling while boat is stationary)
this way is probably the best as it causes no drag, if you do mount it so it actually runs in the water the drag penalty is very small tho

i turn the thing on and the motor goes beep beep to say its ready then the motor jolts and it beep beeps again and then the esc starts to repidly heat up.
god give me strength with this boat.

How was the motor mounted to the boat ? Is the motor mounted thru 2 small bolts to the front of the shall ?
Make sure the bolts are short and just long enough to mount the motor. If the bolts are too long, during the installation
the bolts will keep on going till it touch the coils of the BL motor and shorted out the wires inside the coil, and
that will cause excessive heat build up in the motor, worse case will burn up the ESC as well.
Water getting into the boat won't cause heating up of the motor, but if water got into the ESC, ESC will heated up and burned
sometime.
