Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless

Just bought this boat a few days ago and so far, for a $200 ARTR, it's not that bad. It doesn't come with a battery and TT suggest using a 3S 2200mah 25C. This battery will be ok for a beginner, with the 1850KV motor, you are only getting 20,500rpm. Run time with aggressive driving is around 5 minutes, gonna throw a 4S in there and see what happens.

maybe a X440 prop and two 2s 5000mah packs would make that puppy move!

Might go that route, it is just too slow. This is my first mono, is it riding too low, I need to adjust the trim tabs to lighten up the front?

this hull is a splash of a DF29 and that's a good thing
move your lipos back to get your CG about 28-29*
and keep your trim tabs about level along with the strut
start there and see how it runs ;)

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless

The lipo goes in the radio box and the strut is not adjustable, solid prop shaft. Guess I'll keep this a entry level boat and just put a 4S 2200 in it, no since in throwing money at a plastic hull.

Looks like a Delta Force mono in my future :D

come on bro!
you don't need the lipos in the radio box, take them out and place them on the outsides of the rails
and you can addjust the prop shaft by bending it slightly
its brass ;)
you really need 5000mah with this boat to see just how it can really run

ps again.. it's a df29 splash [:-]

The actual prop shaft is solid, not a flex shaft, bending it is not a option.

Another cool shot though:

I would get an after market flex shaft and have at it ;)

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless

The CG was way off, very back heavy, so after setting it to a more appropriate CG of 33%, the small leak from around the stinger was able to let enough water in the hull to get to the motor and poof [:@]

Tore the hull all the way down and put a layer of CF down to help strengthen it since its a ABS design. Bought most of my hardware, going with a stand off rudder and a adjustable stinger.

33% on that hull is a bit wet
28% is more like it and will run faster...

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless

It was running much better than the stock config until the motor bit the dust. Doing as you suggested, going to run 2S batteries in series and have them where I can move them back and forth to find the perfect CG.

Your motor blew what are you getting next

a Leopard 4082/4074 2200kv on 4s would be a monster in this hull :)

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless

^Yes it would! I'm trying one of the cheap Chinese motors, EMP B2835. It's a inrunner and for $13, figured I'd give it a try.

Being new to the FE scene, I'm still unsure on how to pick motors. I know that running 4S batteries I need to stay around 2200KV to keep the RPMs below 35,000, after that, I really have no clue. I dont want to seriously overpower the hull, but I'd like to have it handle well in the corners.

give us a link to that motor please..
you will need something with decent power to push this hull without burning up ;)

no go bro.. ;)
that motor is only 28mm x 35mm
you need one thats 36 to 40mm dia. and 56mm+ length
like a 3674 2200kv.. that motor will have about 4 times the power of the 2835

and UL-1 motor will work great to ;)
3656 2030kv

RE: Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. Brushless

The reason I was looking at 28mm motors is because the factory was a 28mm outrunner.

OK, checked out OSE and they have a Leopard 3650 w/ cooling jacket:

sizing outrunners to inrunners cannot be done like that
28mm does not = 28mm

go bigger than a 50mm
like this 3674
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...o-3674&cat=148
it will run cooler and have much more power to play with..
use just enough or not enough for FE boating and you will eventually have issues... ;)

I do have an extra 3674 2200kv motor I may sell :D

my bad, it's a 4074 2200kv motor I have an extra of...
http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...o-4074&cat=148
almost the same as a Castle 1515 2200kv motor that comes in the Revo [:-]

Srt10 how do you calculate its 4 x more power? Is there a chart to match a boat Hull and weight to certain size of brushless motor?
