Which boat would you get?
I have the addiction in a bad wayhttp://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...unge_smile.gif. I've finally found a legal place to run, and am ready for a bigger FEthan what I already have. (NQD "tear into" and SuperMonoX)
I have a ton of batteries for my aircraft, but not too many 2S packs. I am hoping to use the batteries I already own. I'm thinking either the Impulse31, Motley Crew, or Revolt 30. I have a good tx and extra rx's. I don't have much free time to build. I'd like the new Impulse coming out, but it doesn't look available until October. Where I will be running, should be smooth conditions in the a.m., and slight chop from wind later in the day. (Medium size pond) Buying from towerhobbies is a plus because I get free shipping and I have $50 off $300 code. Also, I can get discounted price for Pro-Boat from Wholesaletrains.com, but pay out the whazoo for shipping.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...spinnyeyes.gif Thanks for helping out a fellow addict |

RE: Which boat would you get?
Hope your knee heals quickly. I'm 'waiting' for my stock motor to burn up to install a larger outrunner. I'm enjoying the lake so much that I'll probably get a paddle boat for the fam and I just ordered a seaplane for it:

RE: Which boat would you get?
None of the above, build one! I bought a Thunder Tiger Outlaw Jr. OBL thinking it would be just a fun little boat. Now, the need for speed has hit me and the only thing left in it that's stock is the hull and I've already put a layer of carbon fiber down to strengthen the hull for the upgrades.
Get you a Delta Force mono or cat and build it the way you want. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...rod=df-delta29 With one of the 40XX motors: http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...Leopard+Motors Add you own size hardware, you have a screamer! This is the motor/ battery combo I'm putting in the Outlaw Jr.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5yM61GM90A0 |
RE: Which boat would you get?
guy says he doesn't want to build cause he doesn't have the time... and you suggest a build for him.??
|
RE: Which boat would you get?
That's not a excuse, if you dont have time to build, how do you have time to enjoy the hobby.? If he is going to buy speed, a $200-$300 rtr is not going to buy much. 30mph out of the box doesn't excite you for too long and paying someone to build a FE is gonna cost a whole lot more than doing it yourself.
|
RE: Which boat would you get?
The main reason I say build is because I bought the TT Outlaw Jr. as a RTR and thought it would be good enough. Pretty much, I've paid $200 for a plastic hull since that is the only thing being re-used.
If someone is wanting more speed than what they already have, chances are a RTR is not going satisfy the want for too long. |
RE: Which boat would you get?
I picked up a Revolt 30 RTR and out of the box I am getting 45 mph. Actually out of the box it ran in the high 30's but a friend gave me another prop to try out and now it does 45mph according to my Garmin. I was in the same position with not enough time to build my own. If he only has 20 or so minutes every now and then to toss the thing in a pond and run some laps, think how long he would have to wait to enjoy his home made boat if the little time he had was used for building.
I am looking for longer run times and already have a1/5scale Baja SC truck with an OBR full mod 29.5cc long rod motor so I am very familiar with gassers. I am going to go with the old Thunderboat style. Set up as a gasser I will be able to run 30 to 45 minutes on a tank. Now the challange is to find an RTR that is well made. JMHO, MadDog |
RE: Which boat would you get?
I recently bought the Revolt 30. Its pretty quick out of the box, is very stable and handles great, but a prop change, a good 5000, 50c 4S pack, scuff the bottom, and sharpen all the running gear and now she really flies.
I am sure I could have built something quicker but this didn't cost much or take much timeand is really a quality boat for a RTR. Also a simple motor/ESC change and some 6S power and it will compete with anything its size. Another nice thing is I can do upgrades as time and money permit. Meanwhile I have a fast, fun boat. I am sure that building your own is probably the best. Dosen't matter if its a car, truck, boat, airplane or Heli but......... There are some quality RTRs out there that can be alot of fun. RTRs have really come along way, they are not the junk toys they were 5 or 10years ago. Just pick one with a good solid hull and quality running gear and have FUN!!! Doug (Varooom) |

RE: Which boat would you get?
Off topic but for MadDog, there's a guy over on the Dock that's selling the new G300, already has the +1 crank in it!

kilr95ss: Where is this Dock you speak of? I would consider the G300 if I knew where to find it.

I like the idea of the Revolt30 with different prop, and sharpened hardware etc. Thanks to everyone for your help. I'm still open to other ideas, keep em coming!http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...ey/msn/lol.gif |

I think I have found the Dock that you are referring to and joined. However, I cannot find the boat you are talking about. Can you give the the title of the thread? MadDog |
RE: Which boat would you get?
"Jims Rc Boat Dock" Its not a boat, it's the new Zenoah 29.5 engine with 1048 big bore carb. It's in the manufactures for sale area. They are $269 shipped.

RE: Which boat would you get?
Now, back on topic. As far as a RTR, I would go with the Traxxas Spartan. It's 6s capable out of the box, has aluminum hardware including a adjustable stinger and comes with Castle motor and esc.

It's 6s capable out of the box, has aluminum hardware including a adjustable stinger and comes with Castle motor and esc. I have this boat, for 2 summers now, you cant run 6S on the stock ESC by castle, it will melt the solder joints on the traxxas plugs, burn out the liner in the drive tube, melt the 3 plugs on the speed control itself and lastly burn up the speed control. I have a 180amp Turnigy ESC with a wire drive in this boat now. It will go 69.9. The issue is the once I go over 60 the hull is totally out of the water and it will china walk and flip. I drive it full out when the lake is glass. The Spartan is a real good 4S boat out of the box. |
RE: Which boat would you get?
I have the Revolt 30 as well, I have owned it since it came out. I had to send it back for a new motor/speed control 3 weeks ago, the motor compartment gets real hot running on 4S 10,000 mah lipo's
8 minute run time full throttle |
RE: Which boat would you get?
Hobby man,
I put a 47x50 on my Revolt. I wouldn't say its the perfect prop but its quite a bit faster than the stocker and dosn't seem to shorten run time or over heat anything. Varooom |
