i would look into a lehner....i would suggest a 32 cell setup with a lehner 3080 either the 8 turn or the 9 turn with a schulze 40-160 speed control

all this can be found here

the NEU 2215/2Y is also reccomended for 32 cell apps., but i dont know how it will work in a 1/8 scale hydro...(ive heard neu's have loads of tourque, so i would guess it will work too, but i would ask someone who knows more about it)

Bump it up... I too have a 1/8 Miss Bud and thinking of converting it to electric, has anyone done this, any pictures or suggestions on motor, battery, speed control would be appreciated.

It's been done and quite successfully. You need a big motor and deep pockets. Here's a build thread over at OSE forums from a few years back.

Again, you need a big motor with lower KV spinning a decent size prop. On a budget, if you can find a discontinued Little Screamer that would be a good choice. Otherwise a Leopard 5692/5698, Castle 2028 are more budget oriented choices. Motor and ESC can run $500+ easily. If you had unlimited funds, you can go Scorpion 5035, Neu 2225/2230 or Lehner.

It's a heavy hydro hull though and to power it, it needs to be a HV setup (these motors are the size of a soda can). Depending on your motor choice, at minimum you'll need at least a 200amp but preferrably a 240HV or higher setup. Battery wise, you'll mostly likely use a 8S2P or higher cell count. So even with the hull already at your disposal, it might be another $1K to get up and running if you don't already have lipos and chargers.

Okay guys, are your boats the Pro Boat or a true scale hull? If it's the Pro Boat, going that fast could be fatal to the hull due to the poor balancing of the boat

Mine is a pro boat and from the sound of it I need to keep it gas and find a nice deep v electric.... thanks for the info, good knowledge.

I'm not saying that, just that the boat needs to be rebalanced and possibly strengthened before pushing it that fast

I think your motor and lipo placement would be part of that balancing act but I'll have to agree that the FG is pretty thin in some areas.  I have a gutted hull that I haven't weighed but it's by no means a light weight.  Add a 3lb motor and 5lbs of lipos and it's a submarine in the water.  You can make it go fast but it probably won't survive a blow over.

One certainly does not need to add 8 lbs of electronics to the boat to make it run! That's probably a bad idea for some less-than-full-bodied hulls anyway. Plenty of FE 1/8s have been set up with the Neu 1527/1.5Y motor on 10S1P.

1527/1.5Y - 21.8 oz
10S/6500 mAh - 62 oz
Total - 5.25 lbs

The above is a cheaper setup than the 8# one too, and is proven to win races. Actually it is too fast, easily outrunning nitro 1/8s. For even less cost/weight:

Scorpion 4035/800 - 15.3 oz
8S1P/5000 mAh - 37.5 oz
Total - 3.3 lbs

This setup will give closer to 1/8 nitro performance for a lot less $$ and weight than the 8# fiasco. Upping packs to 6500 mAh gives lots of run time....relatively speaking anyway.

How much does your racing hydro weigh?  If it's an epoxy or build up wood hull it's probably half the weight of the proboat.  The proboat 1/8 hydro hull + hardware only is around the 9-10# mark.  For sport running, 2P would not strain your lipos as much and would help them last longer but for racing, I can see why you want the lightest setup using high quality lipos.
