Default When you flip your boat....

What do you guys do if the motor ingested water, salt water at that! I did that today at the local Island and pulled the plug, cranked her over to get the water out, turned her upside down to drain the rest, than we were out there for a few more hours, I left it in the sun and every 20 mins or so I cranked her over, just got home washed her out (the boat itself)and sprayed WD40 down the plug hole. Anything else I need to do?

As always I appreciate all your feedback guys!!

Thanks RCU!

Did you get it running again and do some laps at speed to build good heat in the motor after it got dunked? Or, did it just sit?

SOAK it in WD40...I hear some guys use auto tranny fluid, marvel mineral oil, etc...Worth's Rost Off is GREAT stuff.

I tried to start it and she wouldn't start, Id take the plug out and clean that off crank it over with the plug out and than try starting it again, no luck. This thing for some reason is a real pain to start. But may have figured out why before I flipped it.

I will continue to soak it in WD40 and keep cranking it over as well. Thanks for the link, I will look at that in a little.

Thank you for your input!

right after dunk in saltwater flush engine with fresh water remove plug pull engine over change fuel choke engine pull over untill it pukes fresh gas out pull over a few more time to clear the cylinder reinstal plug then start engine if doesent start after a few pulls you can try using alittle engine start down the plug hole once started lun engine untill it ges hor so that any water gets burnned off after engine is cooled off sprat down the engine with WD 40 or other of your choice add a little tranny oil through the plug pull engine over a few time reinstal plug and put away until the next outing

I'd suggest cleaning out your entire fuel system as well. Water may have gotten into your tank and lines too
I got a suggestion for you too RCguy. Clean up your spelling ,grammer and punctuation. It's bloody atrocious!!! You're making Cannuks look bad!!! I blunder myself at times, but I'm usually into me cups when I'm on here. You can't make that excuse, so come on. LOL Just rattling your cage buddy. Seems to be the thing to do around here these days. Going to blast Hogweed for the same thing. He's the worst offender. At dunking boats too!!!

In situations like this, is it not a bad idea to install a kill switch that shuts down the ignition when the boat flips?

Im sure there is a type of mercury switch that would work well to connect a circuit only when totally inverted...

one important thing after a dunk: take the plug out and flip the boat upside down and pull the starter to turn it over and get teh worst of the water out of the motor...a lot of times just doing it with the boat on the bench isn't enough to get the water out of the case...

Check you wires, grounds, and coils to double check for corrossion with salt running and dunking. Salt is BAD!!!
