Default ZenoaPUM 26cc carb settings needed

Hello

I sorry to have to ask for helpl again regarding my engine.

I got the boat already for a dry run to test the engine. The fuel was 5000ml/ 170ml two stroke oil. Around 30/1.

I pumped the carb bubble and put on the choke. The servo arm set up is as follows:

Throttle free (hands off) = 100% idle. IE: if I were to have nothing conected to the carb, the arm with the ball servo connected to with a spring would be fully extended.

With full throttle ( Trigger pressed in ) the same "L" shaped arm would be in as far as it could physically go!

To start, I have a function called idle-up. I have set this arm around 20% forward... And this is what I set when I try start it.

The engine would not start. It has fuel, it has a spark, and only the odd self running for around 2-3 seconds and then it cuts. Thee starts are not very often by the way.... The skin is coming off my index finger... :-(

I tried to adjust the "h" and "L" screws and I ay have messed it up.

Please coud you tell me what I must do to set them again?

I can screw both screws in 100% so the spring is all scrunched up..... Now he many turns must I wind each one out?

I live in Hong Kong.. 34deg with 95% humidity at sea level.... If that makes a difference.

Also any ideas why it's not starting? Is my throttle open too much? Too litte? Wrong fuel mix??? Frustrated me!!!

PS: when it dd fire up for 3 secs, it was revving pretty high!

Thanks, I realy need some help here and a video if hw to start the beast correctly would be awesome.

Rich

Hi Rich,

not sure which carb you have, but try needles first at 2 low and 1 high. Put your finger over the carb inlet and choke it, watch the fuel go up the fuel line. Two slow pulls like this, and your finger should be wet.

Now, give it some throttle, about 3/4 so it has plenty of air, a good strong pull and you should hear it fire and hopefully start. Might take two or three tugs but should clear the excess fuel and get to firing within three to five pulls normally. If its a 644 carb you might want to try needles at 11/2 out each and repeat.

Make sure the motor is not flooded, and that your radio is opening and not closing the throttle.

Let us know how you get on.

Good replies so far (in both threads). One thing I would add is to use more oil. Most are running with a ratio of between 12-1 and 16-1.

Get yourself down to the [link=http://www.hkmta.net/local_our_water.html]Hong Kong club[/link] where you will find some experienced guys. Help on hand is always better than written advice

What does 2 low and 1 high mean?

Turn the "L" in fully and then unscrew 2 full turns?

Thanks

Hi Rich,

yes, "gently" turn the screws in clockwise until they stop - be very gentle as the needle seats are soft and easy to damage, then unscrew for the two turns on the low and one on the high. If it's a 257 carb that will most lilkely be a little rich, but should get you running, rich is normally safe.

Just ppicked up on what Ian mentioned and he is correct, a bit more oil would be good, around 16:1 keeps them running well. Everyone has their own views on oil content though, so don't get too hung up on that for now, oil content won't affect your starting, unless you have way too much oil in there of course.

Thank you Gents amazing info.

Ian.... I have been looking for a boat club in HKG for ages and even the locals have not been able to point me in the correct direction. Funny, it takes someone from Sweden to tell me where to go :-)

It's a small world.

Hi Daniel

Sorry for the late reply, I have been away.

You wrote: What carb is on the engine? 644 or a 257? Your description is sounding like a carbutertion issue most likely as you have suspected. Duriong these times of no start condition are you seeing a wet plug or a dry one. You might try disconnecting the fuel line entirely and manually shooiting 1/4 oz of fuel in the carb and hold the throttle wide open. In sevarl pulls of the rope it shoukd dry out and fire and burn off the fuel you put in it. If it does this fine then we are off to troubleshooting it as either a vaccum leak or carburetion issue. Let us know.

I looked at the spark plug and there is a spark and it is getting wet!

Any ideas now?

Still only explodes into life after around 10 pulls and only about 2 second pop if that.

Am I trying to start the engine with the throttle too wide open or too closed?

Rich
