im looking to start a new project and was interested in a mid sized cat hull. i saw the 53" skater on the central RC site and was wondering if anyone knew what kind of speeds i could be expecting if i put a mod zen in it pushing just under 5hp?

Thats a nice hull you could also look at expresscraft they have a thunderbolt thats pretty nice or Ray from recon boat works has a ballantine mantis they all should run pretty well with a single zen.

I built a thunderbolt for a friend of mine. First run with Gizmo GZ1 top end and standard Propshop 2714/3 ran 58mph on GPS. 60mph is not a problem with that hull and a good set-up!

The boat in the Youtube link is running a Redline Full Mod and that was its 1st run. It ran well with a standard cat setup. I like how the Skater runs on the water I haven't noticed any bad tendencies. It reminds me of how the full size boats run.

BTW, I'm the guy throwing the boat in the water and put the video up. Haven't run it yet with a GPS; we mainly race offshore in the rough so all out speed is not super important. I'll see if I can coax the owner to drop in a GPS the next time the water is calm.
