Default RCM Z Drives

Any one got any details on these Z drives?
How much Hp they will take?

Im intrested in anything you have... Parts, Pictures etc.

Im very intrested in any pictures of how a shaft goes into the drive unit... because the inner of the drive is smooth.. i thought it would be splined or square drive!!

Any ideas?

Jack

Last word I heard was the drives are discontinued. There are still some floating around (new and used).
The flex cable gets bonded to the input gear using Loctite 648 retaining compound - MHZ drives were once the same way.

Manufacturer made no specific claims for power beyond stock zenoah - Just like MHZ.

Not sure what specific pics your after

This is the input gear

(I had a few once!)

I dont have one on the shelf bonded - only installed and once installed it is out of sight inside the drive behind the transom near the black seal you see in the pics. Just looks like a flex cable going into a tube (like most bonded shaft/cables as used with struts). I will see if I can turn a pic up though

Ahhh ok...

so basically you lace the 1/4 flexi shaft with loctite (number you said above) and push it into the output shaft?

What happens if you snap a flexido you warm the imput shaft up and pull it out!!

I wouldnt of thought it would of held but hay how!!!lol

I loctite all my flex cables into the shafts and Ive had shuner cables snap before the loctite letting go.
To get the flex cable out you heat the shaft but dont stand in front of it as when the loctite does let go the cable or shaft can take off pretty quick.

If you prepare the surfaces correct (clean with solvent and a snug fit) the compound will hold like brazing or silver soldering. Solid in 10 minutes and I have seen boats on the water in 30 minutes (an option for lakeside repairs).

To release bond only requires moderate heat - minimizes chance of damaging the temper of cable windings or gears that brazing and silver soldering will so often do.
