Default RE: Long flex shaft or short.

Flex shaft is sort of a means to an end. It is as long or short as needed to connect motor and prop when in their optimal locations for balance and handling. The length of the shaft impacts little on the performance/hp. Outboards can have a cable of 6" or less while Hydros can be 20" or more.
