Default one for the engine guy's

Hi

This is my s520 that toasted the N0. 2 cylinder.

I'm not sure what the cause was but the bigend is toast, the plug color was good and the motor was getting lots of water cooling as the cylinders were very warm to touch but you could still hold them.
I had the carbies set to 1.5L and 1H and she was running really well.

This wasn't a new motor when I got it so I'm not sure if the main damage was done then as we have only run it 3 or 4 times with the last one being a good run.

Needless to say I'm on the lookout for a new crank assembly and some pistons.

Could be why the bloke sold it, shame about it as you said it was running really well. This is the problem with S/H engines, I had a similar problem with one I got, only it was the main bearings that seased on the crank, definitely been run excessively lean at some stage in its life.

Cheers

I saw the thread over on The Dock and the responders gave you a lot of good advice. The engine was run too lean. It should have been another 1/2 turn out on the low-speed needle. The burn on the crank and not much of any oil burn on the piston was a dead give-away as it was oil-starved due to not getting enough oil with the lack of fuel.

thanks guy's

I ran my cat with the 520 in her today and had her set to 1.5H and 1.5L and she ran well.
I have been taking notes from the responses for the dock so when I rebuild her hopefully
I will avoid the same problem
