I use them on all my boats....I use a sticky chainsaw oil... So it sticks to the shaft.... It's fairly light also so does move down easily.
the oil reservoirs have a pin hole in the so it only drip feeds the shaft.

i also think its a performance gain because the shaft is easier to to spin in oil rather than grease!!!

Hi I dont use the res on top of the T- Bar because they dont come with a turn off valve so they will continue to drain oil into the shaft ( depends on how much oil you fill it with ).
I perfer to use a seperate tank and pump my own, as for oil I use ordinary 20W40 car engine oil has always worked fin for me.

Pcture is of my system on my 58" K600 Apache.

Bob .. the pond owner will hate you for that ;-)

Not quite enviromental friendly ... better use a bio-degradable chainsaw oil ,

but cheap (sunflower) cooking-oil will also do the trick

When I ran outboards, K&B recommended 20 w 50 racing oil and STP with a 50/50 mix. It seemed to work well for them so I don't see why it wouldn't work in your case.

I use sunflower oil works great and i use the t bars that have a built in oil reservoir not a cup,i also use a teflon liner, makes for a snug fit and doesnt seem to allow too much oil to escape even when sat still.I may add an oil cup if i intend running all day and didnt want to refill the t bar but so far for an hrs running it seems fine.Like someone said make sure the holes not too big or the oil would run too fast.

Hi hendrix
it really does not matter in my case running 20W50 engine oil as the water does not go anywhere its a disused china clay pit on private land which is already contaminated with all kinds of mineral deposits, I should point out that I run a very minimal amount of oil hense the reason I dont use a constant flow system in any of my boats !.

Thanks to everyone for your input, all good information. The STP mix and chaine saw chaine oil sounds like the way to go... Now I need to find this in a biodegradable version. I'm thinking, what if I mix Crisco shortening and oil?
