Easy Vee Project
Hey everyone, new to the site but not to RC. Really enjoying reading the post and have found some very useful information so thank you. Wanted to take a moment and say hi to everyone. I came across the site after recently deciding to try my hand at a building an Easy Vee. So far its been fun, I have attached some pics because I know you guys all want to see! lol. Getting close to mounting all the hardware so any insight, tricks and tips are greatly appreciated. Now I am a single father and a big part of my hobby is with my son, so yes cost effective is the goal. I hope you enjoy the pics, and I will keep everyone updated as I progress.

Hey everyone, Im getting set to head to the hobby store next day or so and had a few questions. As I mentioned this is a firsts boat build for me, I'm fairly green to boats but pick up quick and had a few questions. I am noticing a lot of you using IV bags over fuel tanks is there a particular reason. The additional items needed list that comes with the boat list more then one would need to purchase and some of the parts list Im not understanding. I have a 25cc Homelite. Any set up information or tips are greatly appreciated, info on prop recommendations etc. All I have is the weedeater at this point so...lol Thanks

Picked up a few supplies today and made a parts list to complete, to date I have $47.12 into this build, completed the first coat of resin tonight. Starting to look like a boat! lol

The reason why IV bags are used is because with them in case of a flip you don't have to worry about water getting in through a vent line as the bag will collapse as it empties. It's also lighter if that means anything and easier to plumb. Run a T fitting and you can fill it easily. I put mine nose down to keep as much air out as possible. You can back crank a fueler to get any air out. The only downside that I know of is that once you put fuel in it is that you have to keep some in there to keep it from hardening. You can use any size that you'd like, 250, 500 or 1,000ml depending on how much run time you need. I use 500's but could get by with a 250ml for heat racing.
Joe's instruction manuals are very well writtien with a bit of humor thrown in. He's learned from his mistakes when building the prototypes so he doesn't want you to make the same.
The Homie is a good place to start if you have all of the hardware needed to install it which isn't easy to come by anymore. Once you get it running play with it for a while then think about upgrading when you get that need for more speed.

Hi Ron, thank you for the great advice, I started realizing last night parts are not so easy to come by for the Homi set up, The build plans are very well done, and the boat has been a fairly easy build for me which is nice as a first time builder. I will move forward with the Homi for now but Im sure I will upgrade it in the future. My hobby store essentially had very little for me and indicated I would need to order through Aeromarine or Top Secret. I have spent some time on both sites and looked at the parts list # for the Aeromine parts. I am curious if members can recommend some parts places, I also am wondering where people are getting the coloured Struts/Rudders etc? Also took a quick look thinking members n this site may sell parts and setups but have not found any,
Any and all insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you

We sell everything you need except for (Homelite) mounts and square end flex shaft.
You can get two flex shafts from your weed trimmer (it is squared on both ends).
We have a special set for for the weed trimmers so that you can use our stinger drive.
It includes the stub shaft, ferrule, drive dog, ball thrust bearing and prop nut.
You solder your flex to the ferrule and the stub shaft is retained by set screws.
The drive dog transfers thrust to the stinger drive thru the thrust bearing.
All of it fits inside the barrel of our stinger.

Hey Joe, that sounds like the best set up so How much for the package you outlined? What is the easiest and quickest method of purchase on these items. Is the Stinger available in different colours?

Bill at Top Secret closed the business up a while ago as he was making better money doing other projects for the government.
I agree with you about hobby shops. I've got 3 of them within a 20 minute drive and they only carry some RTR boats and hardly anything at all for boat parts. They do come in handy as far as parts that all RCer's use.
Joe, after that order that I placed with your wife today I realized that I need more stuff so I'll get another one into you soon.

Hey Joe took a look at the site, the stinger and stub shaft set look like my best starting point. Can you recommend the best prop for this setup, I see a couple different options?
Also still wondering if I have any colour options on the Rudder etc, and Im still in the dark on mounts for the Homi! lol.
I have found so many great ideas on this site so far, I appreciate any and all advice. Thanks

Well I have completed my fourth coat of resin and wet sand and prep for stuffing. I have received my new stinger drive, prop, auto bailers, short shaft set from Zippkits so thank you Joe. I just ordered engine mounts with 5" spacers for a Zenoah so Im hoping its bolts up to my Homi? Got my engine all tore down and ready for paint and upgrades. Things are coming along!!. Thanks to everyone for their insight and tips it has helped me greatly. I had asked the question about coloured hardware, rudder, trim tabs etc. but I have been unable to locate Im thinking guys are getting them powder coated does anyone have info?

That mount won't work, you're better off trying to fabicate one yourself. In the meantime hang onto it as when you finally do a motor upgrade you can use it.
As far as anodizing goes, you might be able to find a place locally as I found out about one less than a mile from my house.
Speedmaster, www.rossisales.com does some but would preferably do their own hardware. Warehouse Hobbies used to do anyones but they closed up shop back in July.

For powder coating, there is a guy on this site that is doing some, Mike Ecton aka Toyotatruckin.
