Shhhh! Sneak peek at the new Zippkits mono.
Joe posted a shot this morning on Facebook of the new mono kit that's coming out this week. Right now he's trying to get this one finished for the Toledo Show next weekend and is trying to have some kits on hand for sale there. Right now business has been so good for him that's he's temporarily run out of wood so whatever he takes there as far as all of his kits will be limited.
Cost unknown at this time but should be as low as his other kits. It's not what I expected when I heard that he had a new one in the works. This is one nice low-profile hull.

My though too. It's a like it or not piece but one thing about his kits is that you can change whatever you want. It prefer to run my mono's "topless" so I see where if I got one I'd modify the hatch opening altogether.
I got 2 more shots off Facebook.
Note also that it's not the new Easy-Vee, this one is all new. They are working on a version 2 of the Easy-Vee though that will be lighter and possibly easier than the Easy-Vee to assemble. that would really be easy then!

Yea, I run topless also. Nothing saying that scoop couldn't be turned around to face the transom. I still have the Easy Vee I built in 2007. It needs sanding and paint, but it's all there. Fun boat!

My current mono has a piece of Lexan for a carb shield, My F-41 has the Drag cowl. I don't know how Thunderboats and Crackerboxes can stay so cool as they don't have hardly any air flowing through them. My Jersey Skiff was getting really hot even with the open front hatch and big holes drilled in the transom, so bad that it affected performance.
I've been up in the air about going to the Toledo Show this year or not. I'd really like to see this one up-close and personally. Other than that, the show has become the same old same old.

I've been running a Microburst 45 for 3yrs now. No cowl or shield, as the motor is sitting well below the deck. Ditto as you on the F-41's. I have a Microburst 51 I'm piecing together for sometime in the future as the 45 is still kicking butt purty good. No cowl was even bought for the 51. All the Crackers out here run open motor bays. Not so with the Thunderboats. Don't know a thing about Skif'fs...
If anyone of us would be going to Toledo, it would definitely be you! Bout 1500mi away for me!! HAHA!

I used to have a 40" Microburst so it's the same basic design as your 45"er.
I have no idea what the exact distance the Seagate Centre is from my house but yeah, I'm a little bit closer! I take my time heading there with potty stops and breakfast on the way down but on the highway this old man scoots down the road. It's just long boring stretches as I'm basically only on two highways the majority of the time.
Joe posted yet another shot tonight, a top shot without the hatches on. I just haven't saved it yet on my computer. I'd rather wait to see one with all of the hardware attached so I can see how they have it all planned out. The transom is really low so on the way it doesn't look like a normal radio box would fit in there but I could be wrong.
OK, I just snagged his latest pic.
Note that a little thing like already having the holes already drilled for the motor mounts. As you know, something like that can knock a good hour out of build time and that's IF you have the stuff to do it with.

Predrilled motor mount holes, OUCH!! Me no like that! I'm sure he did that so his mounts would work with a 260 motor in it. I have graduated to the BIG blocks and Gizmo mounts and would probably want the motor a bit more forward (like 1/2" or more), so the predrilled holes would not work for me. I do think it would help a novice builder and am sure Joe had this in mind doing this. And the cutout notch for carb clearance creates a problem too. I remember on my Easy Vee build, I had to put 3/8" spacer blocks on the rear of my motor to space the mount back so that I could have wood to drill thru for the isolator to bolt thru. I remember going back and forth with Joe in emails and him telling me I was overpowering the E/V with a CC Pro/Mod motor. I made it work and the boat ran fine. A vid of it running is somewhere on Youtube still.
All and all, I thing Joe did good here and a pat on the back is deserved. I like the guy and think his devotion to the hobby is great. Thanks for posting the pics Ron!

The first kits should be shipping sometime next week. They took all summer testing it to get it where it handled best and Joe is rewriting the building manual making changes. Corey (Larcor69) and I are on the list to get some of the first ones. There is a special hardware kit for the Pro-Vee which I ordered also. That includes as the biggest item, a drop-down header as opposed to his standard mono package.
Brian, as an aside, I got to see an F-41 that you built for a guy who lives in Grand Rapids now. It ran very well! A little loose on the water but so was mine that day.

Can't see his face, but I recognize the boat and stand! I built that boat for Dan Naulty like back in 2006ish?? He took off for a year or 2 to go to college at Oxford in England. The boat sat in his garage and everything got all dried up. He gave it to me to "refresh" in 2010. I wanted to put an AC Quick Change radio box in, but he didn't want to spend the extra cash and the old radio box stayed. I replaced all the water and fuel lines, rebuilt the carb, new fuel bag, and tossed in a new ring. I hacked off the full cowl and put on the mirror windshield and didn't tell him! HAHA! I see from the pics that he still hasn't learned about radio box tape. The motor is a CC Racing Pro/Mod Carlo built from a new motor Dan sent him. He was moving to Washington state, so I built a crate for the boat to ride inside the moving van. Last time I saw the boat till now.
He texted me bout a year back asking about Gas/Oil ratio and what he needed to do to get the boat sea worthy again. He texted me back, thanking me that the boat was running great. Didn't say where he was! Last I heard from him. Great guy Dan! He get's around!

Yes, that's the boat and it still had the rubber band over the radio box lid! I gave him a roll of tape. It hadn't been run since then but fired right up after we got some gas in it. He's supposed ot get a new radio system and a few other things for it. We wrestled with the Rx switch for a while but I had spare parts for that. He was having too much fun running it WOT to worry about flipping it and he did a few spectacular ones! Note the first shot as that was a good one.
He asked me if I'd ever heard of you. I told him for a long time mostly from Jim's as you've helped me out with my Cat's a lot.
OK (maybe), back to the subject at hand.

Dang it, I had a vid of Joe running his new V at the Cincy race. Sweet is all I can say. Must have deleted it to open up space on the phone. He had it painted by the time the last race in Madison came about.

Mark, Corey and I at least are still waiting for the kit's release as we thought that we would have had them this week. I talked to Joe and Mike at the Hobart race in early September so I know we're near the top of the list for the first batch. Last week he said that he's editing the manual so that right now is the delay.
He's let a few people drive the prototype. Chris Rupley was one of the first. Jim Hoadley was there during the weekend to write up an article for RC Boat magazine more about the shop but Joe took him out and let him take it for a spin. I just bought a RCMK 265 from Jim over a week ago, a stroked 254. That's going in something else and a full-mod RCMK Suicidal 254 in the Pro-Vee.

As a little update. Joe released the kits 1-1/2 weeks ago and mine arrived last Friday. It's on the table being built. Follow his instructions very carefully and so far, especially when installing the chines as they are very critical parts. Read it twice or more if you have to and use the online manual as the color shots help in places. Right now I'm at starting to put the sheeting on. Get a LOT of clamps in a variety of sizes and types as you're going to need them and load up on the epoxy and CA also.
