Bonzi 84 Apache with twin 35cc QD motors, opinions!
I had the post with the twin 70cc apache and I decided that that was a little to much coin and motor for my need so I was wondering if the same boat with the twin 35cc QD motors would be a good choice? Anybody with this boat please tell me about it and the speed because I am looking for high 50's to the 70's. Oh yeah, I want to get it without the radio so I was wondering if the hitec Agressor CRX would be a good system?

in all due respect .......if you have to ask about Quickdraws......you shouldnt be getting them especially twins. they are a thoruough bred engine and require a "maintanence budget" to keep in race form take a look at the 29cc Sikks... very user friendly

He doesn't have it up on his site yet. I am doing some work for Dan at Bonzi, I was over at Bonzi Sports the other day and he showed them to me. The 64" is a very good looking boat, I may be going over their today and I have my camera so if I do go, I snap a pic and post it for ya.

You probably made a good choice by not putting in a quickdraw 70cc engine because the hull cannot handle the power.I had that exact combo and the hull cracked up.I since junked the hull for a 72" custom cigarette style hull to handle 70cc .If all works out I will see about 70to80mph.If you need more info let me know.

I was just looking at your post and it is pretty amazing to me what happened to the hull with those motors, what exactly happened? I am also looking at twin Zenoah 42cc Dominators from marine specialties and I was wondering if any body knows the power rating on those? Anyways, this boat is going to be made to go out to Lake Mojave with me so I can carve up some 2' to 3' waves, since that is about all there is.

I talked to the guy's at Marine specialties a couple of weeks back and they told me they were not making the 42 until they could get a reliable source for the tuned pipe. do you have more info? I would love to get ahold of one if they are making them..

I was in Elk Lake with about a 1ft to 2ft chop could not have been any faster than about 30to40mph or about half throttle I assumed for its size this wasn't a big deal, it was taking a little beating but no big deal for a v hull.I brought it back to inspect and to my amazement the hull had severe spider cracking and little wedge like holes in the bottom of the bow. That was enough for me to see that the Apache was not the hull I wanted my $2500.00 engine in.If your looking for the ultimate V hull I can put you in contact with a guy in Colorado that makes a extremely nice custom cigarette style hull ,He charges $580.00.I currently own two of them.I can send you some pics. if you want to see my finished 72" cigarette. In my opinion there is not a nicer ,straighter ,more durable boat in its class. You will have no worries jumping those 2to3ft waves.

This is one of the boats Bonzi is getting ready to release. He still has to design the lid. It's 10.5 lbs.

That boat isn't legal to race in a "Mono" class because it has steps. You would have to run it with the "Cats" or in the "Offshore class" I believe.
But looks like a pretty cool hull.

Does anyone else have experience with a Bonzi hull because I just read that they wil crack and break down on you so I am a little apprehensive about buying the boat now. Can you send pics here of the Apache if you still have it? Who makes the 72" hull that you were talking about because if you say that it handles the waves pretty well then I happy to take a look at it. What kind of engine setup do you have in it? How fast have you taken the boat to?

that bonzi hull is pretty sweet lookin...... so if its breakin thats scares you run a few strips of carbon fibre cloth or coremat down the inside of the hull on the inside bottom ans a strip on each side...its the flexing in ruff water or abusive conditions that crack the gel coat and unless you can see cracks on the inside they are mostly cosmetic...

His name is Bob Newman out of Colorado if you want more info on him e-mail me direct and I will put you in contact with him but all I can tell you is he makes a very nice piece. But I have the Quickdraw twin 70cc engine(single prop) for my power plant which will push the boat aprox.70to80mph.The boat has close to zero flex so spider cracking is not a issue.Which also means it will run more true and handle better.I will post some detailed pics. over the next couple days for you to see how it looks and the way I set it up that should help answer some questions.

Hey,
Just getting back with you, here is the boat I just put together. This is a Ren-3 custom hull cigarette: 72 inches long, with quickdraw 70cc twin engine, thru hull exhaust, weighing 37 lbs. This is a 70-80 mph boat.

I am interested in building a Cigarette Top Gun type boat for my first RC project. Would Bob be able to replicate something like that? Also what would be a good twin engine setup that would be reliable. I have some friends at a local rc shop that are going to assist me. I work on and run original scale cigarette boats and I always thought it would be cool to have something like this. Any help would be appreciated!!

You sre not gonna get that stuff with MHZ. They are top notch hulls better than most of are's. You won't see'm pourposing down the lake or weird characteristics. That's why some of them are rediculasly expensive.
