Default Building a boat: The Chronicle

Hi all, just wanted to show you some building pics from the cold winter here in Sweden. Hope you all enjey them!
The boat is a plan I was given by a fellow boater here in Sweden, I have no idea as to what boat this is. I got it scaled up from the original plans, from 127 cm in total, to 143 cm in total. I have also made the deck a little curved, instead of all flat as the plan states. Powerplant is gonna be a self-customized Husqvarna 42cc bushwacker-engine, along with a clutch and at the back end a Octura x670 prop.
Anyways, on to the pics!

So, tell me what you think... Anyone here know what hull that might be?

It sure looks like a Wild Thing designed by John Finch. I have one that was shrunk down to 26" for .12-.18 power. You can find the plans and an article on it in www.rcstore.com .
I see that you made some changes to accomodate the Husky (that's what we call them over here). You should have left the extra that hangs down on the freeboard as it help with the cornering, known as the spray rail.
You may have to cut out the bulkhead to fit in a fuel tank.
Nice job so far!

Hi Ron! You think it is a Wildthing? I´ll look into it later, right now, I´m just letting some resin cure, and then right back at it to get this thing ready. About the sprayrail, I have left it on there, It just does not show in the pics very well. I´ll get some other pics that shows it right after the glassing of the bottom is done. About the fuel tank, I´m gonna use two 0,6l aluminium bottles, one on each side of the engine, right on the CG of the boat, and tie them together with some fuel-lines and fill-systems to keep the gas flowing nice, and the CG constant as the fuel burns. Good or bad idea?

Ok, just checked the Wildthing out, and unless the plans has been drastically modified by someone, this is not a wildthing. The deck is even more slanted forward at the wildthing than on this boat, and the bulkheads and stuff is not at all the same. It´s in the same ballpark though, a similar design. But, I dont really care, as long as this thing is floating and making some noice come spring, I´ll love it anyway...

Yes, it does and doesn't look like the Wild Thing. The deck of the WT does have the slant on the deck, it doesn't really show in the pictures.
The fuel tank setup does sound good, having them right over the CG does help the boat keep it from moving rearward like a forward mounted tank.
One friend of mine did build his WT with a starboard side fuel cell that he had custom built with a hatch for access right over the CG.

What I meant was, that the WT seems to have even MORE of a slanted deck than my boat. But, as I said, as long as it´s afloat and making noise come spring, I´ll make it run nice. No matter what boat it is...

Anyway ... nice build so far .

Well, it sure is hard to get any work done, when the temp in the garage is below freezing... The resin cures really slow..=) Nah, joking, I turn that old heater on before using resin. Got some new pics for ya, I just finished taking the tape and clamps of the deck, and got the fueltanks in.

Here you can see the tanks, they are going to be secured with some kind of retainer later, just had to get the supports for them in there before glueing the deck.

Sideview...Dang, this ride´s looking great already!

As I said, this thing is gonna look great...

Yeah, it does, actually! Except for the cowling, and those ridges on the deck, it looks like the same shape of the hull!

Yep, just over 56 inches... 56 inches is 140 cm, and my hull is 142 cm. So it´s kinda big! =) And still, I have not passed the 11 pound mark.... Weight will add up a bit though, I have yet to glass the hull on the outside, and add a few small things. But I doubt the weight will surpass 15,5 pounds, whatever I do.

From the side, looks fast, dont you think?

Another shot from the side...

The boat is coming along nicely. It's nice to see pix of you guys with your boats, it helps to put a face with the sceen name. I've got some shots of myself but not really good ones, most of them showing me bent over a boat showing my backside! OK, it might be my better side.
Here's one of me, on the left in the white T-shirt, my son on the right and the guy behind me is Tony Jacuzzi.

Yeah, well, what can I say, other than it´s nice to see you Ron!
I too like to have a face to connect the screen-name with, it puts a little more perspective to things, adding to the general cozy feeling in the forum. Harder to flame anyone if you see a face in front of you instead of just a name on the screen...=)
Know what I mean?
Anyways, thanks for all the nice feedback on the boat by the way, it means a lot coming from all you guys in here, since you all know way around an RC-boat quite good...

Nice looking boat, so far. I am kinda curious, though. What did you use for fuel tanks? Those don't look like the standard semi-clear you get at the hobby shop. BTW, a 56"boat isn't all that large. I'm building a pair of 1/6th scale picklefork hydros that are 57" (145cm) and 61.75" (157cm), and have friends with 60" (152.5cm) classic roundnose hydros. Here's a shot of the "small" one I'm building
