nice stuff...are those engine mounts off a car radiator or thermal fan motor mounts....... i see your boat is at a car wrecking yard
when is the deck going on????
thats exacally the same engine as my stuffed Talon.... so if ya need parts let me know just pay for shipping (not much i would imagine)

RE: BUILDING A WOODY 47IN V
yeah the mounts are off a car good spoting !! check out [link=http://www.bentleysautospares.co.nz]bentleys[/link] ....they are air box (air cleaner) mounts off a mid to late 90s mitsi lancer or mirage but most late model cars have for mountint differnt things they should do the job ok...
the top deck will go on in the next few days cut it out today and put some flotation in the front just got to put a coat of resin in there and under side of deck to water proof it then glue it all on ...
i wanted to get the motor mounted befor i put the deck on
i have got heeps of spaers for the engine and the local mower shop have a big box full too all the same so parts wont be a prob ....

RE: BUILDING A WOODY 47IN V
hi guys just a tip for next time you build one of these, use zip ties to hold the hull to shape at the stem you just drill holes through both curved edges of the hull and insert small zip ties then pull them tight and epoxy the two pieces together.a little tip i was given by w3bby heres a pic of what i mean the zip ties are then cut off when everything is set and nothing moves this way then fill the holes and seal the outside of the hull with epoxy as normal.you wont need to use any filler to shape it then as it will be the corrct shape to begin with.another thing ive noticed on your boat you didnt over lap the sides below the hull? you need to do this to create chines this aides with keeping the boat upright and also with turning i left it over hanging 1/8 then filled the over hang and shaped it like a concave to create a chine .you will find your boat will need them also!!just thought id point this out ,you can still add some chines by gluing some strips on!!.what the chines do is when you turn and the boat leans the chines make the boat want to right itself and stop it from over turning and flipping upside down which may be a big problem for you at speed ,so id get some added if i were you especially with such a heavy motor!!.[img][/img]the first two pics are of w3bbys boat hope ya dont mind mate the yellow banana is my boat 38 inches long with 11 cc plane engine.not surface drive you,ll be surprised to hear but she still runs at 30 mph so shes ok for a bit of fun.

RE: BUILDING A WOODY 47IN V
hi im not sure what you mean by ribs?,my hull and most of these hulls from these plans are just as you see a deep v no strakes underneath but chines on all.a tip for the chines you could get a square strip of balsa or spruce and glue it on and sand it so you end up with it angled down towards the hull so the edge on the outside is nice and sharp if you understand what i mean? ill try and find a pic of what i mean they also deflect the water downwards at the sides and this downward pressure helps keep the boat running better i hope im making myself clear here but thats the best i can do to describe it im sure others will have better ways to describe it lol.by the way this is w3bbys boat he sent me these pics ages ago im sure he wont mind!! but they are clearer than any i have.
