Hey BudDriver,
Got a chance to run the Bud again at a float fly-in last weekend. We had a glassy smooth surface late in the afternoon. Ran the Bud several times until it broke. Man was she moving! The breakage was not serious. Just one of those things. I got tangled in some weeds and really fouled the prop. I guess it wasn't sharp enough.
Anyway, twisted the flex cable. End of running that day. Ordering spares right now after I post this. I still love this boat!

With the new WTC header, my cowel had to be cut. The front of the air intake was also cut out to help cool the engine and get more air to the carb. To give it that real intake look, I painted the inside of the cowl black (after a white primer).
Weather stripping was then added along the inside of the cowel and over the top edge of the front to help secure it in place.

I honestly just went to my local Home Depot and picked up some spray paint used for outdoor plastics, ceramics, etc. Worked great.

For the front airfoil wings I used doubled sided servo tape but only on the ends of the wings. What this actually does from what I tested is create a narrow passage of air between the underneath of the canard and the airfoils. At speed, when air is traveling over the canard, it flows over the canard hitting the angled airfoils and also beneath the canard where the slight space you have between the airfoils and canard literally scoop the air up as well to flow over the airfoils creating slightly more downforce, similar to a formula 1 cars multi-level rear wing directing air.

Hey There Bud 13 . First thing Happy New Year !! I have the same boat you have did all the same mods it's bad ass but I put a SICK engine in mine you come up on things real fast Ducks ,Boats Ect.Love it. My odd Question is has anyone ever offered to buy your Boat ? What would you ask for it ? And yes I'am thinking on selling mine. Please tell me what you think .

That's a good question, I have received a few inquires in the past but didn't want to sell so I never came up with a price. I guess it really depends on the condition of your boat, your mods, etc. I'd probably just add up all the costs and take 15-20% off that for depreciation for your price, but it's really up to you.

Hi Bud, may I ask what specific pipe and header are you using, and the site you purchased from.
I got this hydro unused but with a damage left and right sponson. after I'm done with the repair,
I'm doing the upgrade one by one.

Nope, the shoes on the rear attached to the non-trip (chine). The only reason I ask is because the gas classic hydro's don't have them. I'm wondering the benefit of them. Could this hull turned into a 3 point hydro.

Technically, it is a three point boat. If the boat is balanced right, the shoes should never touch the water while running. What you have to remember is that the boat is PATTERNED after a full size boat where the shoes are used to help the prop lift the back of the boat prior to ram air pressure and prop being able to do the job

You can actually pick up the same turn fin from Insane Boats (link below). It's a perfect compliment for this hydro. They also have other turn fin options you can check out as well.

Richard, why not build a boat from plans and do it up right? If you blow up a set of Newton plans to 126%, the engine you have would fit fine. It would also give you the chance to balance the boat properly rather than fight a badly balanced hull. Just my .02

Check out http://www.newtonmarine.com and find yourself a boat you like. As I said, blow them up to 126% and start making sawdust
Trust me, if you can read blueprints and/or diagrams, it's an easy build. If you prefer a glass hull, it would make a nice plug to make your mold from. Here's one I started that's scaled up to 134% and 57" long

It's been 10 years since I originally posted about the mods I made to this Proboat Hydro and I still have it running strong (although I just literately upgraded the radio equipment).
Below are two videos we recently captured from this past weekend. It was a little choppy and windy out so I didn't feel comfortable taking it past about 40% throttle, but it's still a little speed demon (or as much of a speed demon it can be with the inadequate hull design).

If the back of the boat is dragging, the wing won't lift enough to get the back out of the water. Truth be told, as I've said many times, the wing is there as a stabilizer, not a lifting device. You need to either:
1) re-balance the boat
2) install a lifting prop
3) both 1 and 2.

BudDriver13, I have an issue with your Go Pro video. It is extremely dangerous to stand in the water and run a boat past your feet and legs, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE BARE FEET!!!!!!!!!!! All it would take is one bad hop and you've either got a broken leg or chopped up feet. That, in a nutshell, is why we are required to shut down our boats when we race at any NAMBA sanctioned race if anyone gets too close to the water, including pets.
BTW, where was that video taken? It looks a lot like Lake Washington, just south of the I-90 floating bridge
