Default Prop Nuts

Hello all.

Does anybody know if the tapered fancy looking prop nuts available at several sources are worth having, currently I am using a standard "Nyloc" nut which holds the prop on just fine, just curious to know if anyone has done any research and got any gains from using the tapered nuts.

Thanks,

Glenn

I really like the way they look and just ordered one for my nitro boat... it was only 2 bucks so I figured I'd give it a try. I will prolly loose my prop because of that thing lol

Stick with your nylon locknut (if you want to keep your prop). You won't pick up any performance gains with a "bullet" prop nut either.

OK, thanks for that xxxboatworks. Very definitive answer. Nyloc gets to stay. BTW, is that a Blackbird (CBR1100RR) in the photo next to your name, or a ZZR1100?

Cheers.

If you insist one using the streamlined prop nut, put a slice of large fuel tubing between the prop and the nut as the tubing will act as a lock washer. If the nut does work its way off, the tubing will also help to keep from losing the prop.

I've used the brass bullet nuts and never had any issues with em. But I have started using Zuber nuts since I saw a buddy lose an $80.00 prop to Davey Jones. Zuber nuts are a locknut without the nylon inside, and smaller in diameter than a 1/4-28 nut. Brian

If you have enough thread...you could try a nylon nut and put a bullet on behind it (for looks).

Nope, it's not a zzr1100 or cbr1100....it's a Hayabusa 1300

Well , whether zubernut , nylock nut , or fancy tapered prop nut ... you should STILL use a dab of LOC_TITE on them . Then NONE of them will come rollin off .

I do know there are some Zuber nuts out there that do NOT lock.[:@] So far I've been fortunate enough to have a good bunch. If you think about, how often are you even messing with that nut? The only time I'm taking it off is during initial setup, and tweeking at the lake with other props. I run collet drives, so the prop comes out with the flex every time I grease it. So if it goes on with a bit of resistance, I'm good with that and don't worry about it. Brian

I use a nylock nut on mine and to cover-up the little bit of prop shaft that is remaining i use a "ACORN NUT". you can find them at your local hardware store for less than a dollar and you can get them in stainless and brass.

Most of my props come off at the end of the day so I don't damage them in transit.

Thanks for all the posts. Should have spotted that Hayabusa - sorry xxx.

I think I will leave well alone with the Nyloc nut I have on now.

Cheers all.

Hey, I don't have one either LOL, plus my prop and shaft are removed from the boat when I leave the lake....... the shaft only gets put in at the lake and removed before I leave.
