I still could build on a air scoop on the outside of the cowl.
How about one of those small air scoops,i have some on my vee they look nice and channel air in pretty good that way you wont even see the hole?.

Yeah, they look nice. Problem is my intake is right at the bottom (see picture).

Im sure if you put one of those air vents there it will work the air will rush in at speed and feed the carb maybe aim the air vent up a touch so you dont get water in it too.The only other suggestion is to make an air dam in your canopy that will push air down and towards the motor as i did on the rockett ! basicly its just either wood or i used a foam block the air hits it and is pushed down and helps feed the carb and keep things cool.You will also need vents in the front of the canopy for this,maybe remove some of the windscreen and install some mesh in its place,would look ok.Heres a pic of my carb intake on the rockett looks kinda similar to me.Heres a cpl of pics of the air dam and vents i cut in the canopy and dont forget what goes in must come out see last pic.
Mart
ps looking at your scoop maybe making an air dam behind the motor will push air down round the motor and stop it exiting so fast?,might be worth a try .

You could also install a cpl of those clam shells one each side on the deck which would work well.

Is it an option to change the cowl and deck a bit so it has an airintake like on the whiplash?
This same problem is with many Hydro's.

I am going to run it without the cowl and see what happens. Just an improvised plastic windshield ducktaped on in front of the motor. If that solves the problem then I look into machining the isolation block down by 1/4".

In my opinion you still need an air dam or those vents as i mentioned because as your cowl is now the air is just going straight through without getting to the motor or carb,especially the carb thats why on the rockett they advise an air dam to stop the air escaping too fast before it does its job.Why not try an air dam just use some foam or plywood siliconed in place to stop the air making it push down round the motor and carb?,wont cost a penny and might just work .

Hey mart,
could you show me somehow what you mean with that airdam? I would like to give it a shot.
Thanks

Like I suspected before, it was the space between the carb and the cowl. I managed to machine 6mm off the isolator block, thus creating the much needed gap. First I ran her without the cowl and she just took off like my "Miss Budweiser". Then I put the cowl on and she still didn't want to run wide open. So I cut a hole out of the cowl and that helped. But there is still a lot of adjusting and tuning to do. The motor didn't want to come on the pipe, which might be the new header I installed. Then I noticed the drive dog must have moved forward pushed by the prop and it was hitting the strut. But other than that she runs fairly good, not great yet but I already can see her potentials. Sorry, no video at this time, too busy.

See the pic of my cowl? well the white foam is the dam it just blocks the air from traveling through and makes it travel down near the motor that way the carb breaths and also things are cooled.Glad you got her working mate keep us posted ,no video?[sm=punching.gif] .

Thanks, mart.
Now I know what you mean. Next weekend we are going to have another club race and I hope I get my new CC motor on time. Since I am not going to race "Miss Llumar", my beat up "Miss Bud" will get the new motor installed. In between I still need to finish my rescue boat, so you can see I am quite busy all week.

Hey Virginian,

I am really impressed, as others are, with what you have done on this build. Have you resolved your carberation issues?

Lets see some video if you have some.

Hope your well

Thanks, photoguy;
To be honest, I haven't done anything, yet. I cut a hole in the cowl and I am still looking to find me a suitable airscoop for it. I was busy with a new CC-modded motor I just aquired for my Miss Budweiser. Now, since I have a second motor, I can concentrate on putting my stock engine in my Miss Llumar and, hopefully, resolve that carbutator issue for good.

I am building the 48" mono, by Doug, that so many have built. I'm having a great time with it and hope to have it in the water before too long. I'd like to build a hydro at some point as well, probably would make a nice winter build. Would you ever be interested in passing along those plans you put together on the CAD program? I know its like an art form and wouldn't expect you to just give it away. I just haven't seen anyone else offering plans like that. Let me know what you think.

And when you get the bugs worked out don't forget to shoot some video.

Hey, photoguy;
I promised my plans to Marcel from Holland as well. He was so kind and shared his cat drawing with us here on RCU. I don't mind at all if someone wants to build my hydro from my plans. Give me a little time, I have to complete one of the drawings, which shows the stringers and the ribs for cut-out. I accidently deleted this drawing and I have to re-copy those parts piece by piece from the assembly drawing. Send my a PM and we can trade e-mail adresses.
