Default Thunderboats-Pros/Cons

I've been thinking of getting one of the classic thunderboats. I'd like to hear any opinions on the various boats available.

Depending where you are in California you may be in Thunderboat Country. NAMBA District 19, in southern California, has a very active race program of Thunderboats. Normal races get 10 to 15 boats and bigger races over 25. They are big fun boats. I know one is in my future.

They use a stock 260 and still get well into the 50's. Honestly the major drawback is their size. They are HUGE and can pose issues for transport. Insane boats right here in Socal makes a popular hull and there are many others. They are very cool.

These photos are from a race Memorial Day weekend in San Diego: [link=http://homepage.mac.com/wmalvey/PhotoAlbum27.html]Thunderboat Action[/link]

Cool boats. You can use your own paint scheme too. It does not have to be an actual boat.

So far I have some across Insane, Aeromarine, and Warehouse hobbies. I am sure there are others building that I am missing.

Another option would be to get plans from Newton Marine and blow them up to 120%, then widen the boat to get the required width. It's a little more work that way, but you can say "I did it all myself" after it's finished
