making a pipe... need help
G'day,
well, Im fixing a pipe more so than making one....It was made by a mate of mine to suit a 44cc chainsaw motor.
The pipe is made from lithographic alloy sheets (thin)
My mate used a Devcon Epoxy of some sort....foolishly, I sanded it down to make it look a little better. I fired up the motor last weekend - and POP!!! I blew the seams on the end cone at hi revs.
What's the best hi temp epoxy to fix my problem???
I will probably use a plasterer's mesh tape to build coats and add strength

lithographic plates are not thick enough to use as a divergence cone, the aluminum is only 16-20 thousandths thick.or about the thickness of 3 pieces of paper.there is way to much pressure for you to get this to work at all.the pulses from the exhaust gasses will fatigue the metal very quickly.find an old aluminum softball bat and cut off the size cone you need from that.have it welded up at a good welding shop.now you got a pipe that will hold up much longer.

If you wanted to diy then just make a new end cone out of something a little thicker and have an overlap to pop rivet.
But as said above if you want tune ability then go for a matched pre fab one.

Buy a pipe a lot less headach. You can get one that will work better. And will give you tuneable opitions.

no way martno, your as open minded as they come lol..back to the pipe .the reason that i mentioned the aluminum softball/baseball bat is that the cone shape is already incorporated into the bat,the upper part of the handle starts the outward tapper.the good part about the bat idea is that almost every thrift store/second hand shop, has a couple in there stores cheap.a dollar or two will usually get your bat, there hollow inside and are good quality aluminum.last time i went to the local thrift store to buy a Halloween costume i saw over a dozen bats sitting in the corner where the sporting goods are.they were priced at $2.50 each.i thought to myself that these are probably worth more as scrap metal than what the selling price.
good luck in your project.
