What is the best header to use, with full cowl? Really didn't won't to use WTC.

Thanks Randy

I used 105 degree header which slides under the cowl to fit the pipe a hanson 2inch band I did have to trim the rear of the cowl.

Most WTC pipes aren't good for use in Cat's or other hulls for that matter but I've got 2 of those cheap Chinese Profession Model WTC pipes and they work rather well.

I cut the entire back of mine out and left the reartabs for mounting. If you do this, the cowl will need reinforcement but IMO it looks better and saves on the headach of trimming out for a pipe and still trying to keep it from looking carved up. The engine also gets alot more air.

I did a search under "41 Falcon" as I couldn't remember what I had mine set at. One posting said 14-1/2" which sounded close to mine. It would have been hard to check mine at the moment as it's awaiting an RCMK S-254 and the other one is out.

i thought that is the same engine you had there already, what happened? My sprint with the SS/hotpipe is doing 63gps now, for next time out I rounded the tips on the 2716 and gonna make that strut set her loose, right now it's kind of wet.... You know that first "blow over" is the one that hurts the most! hahahahaha I should pick up another 2-3mph.... next time.... hopefully..... I have wally and paul helping me out...

I have mine set at 14 1/2 " from transom to balance point with everything in the boat. Mine runs nice and not wet no blow overs, also will turn on a dime. Happy with CG at this distance. First time I mounted the motor it was to far back and cowl would not fit, so had to move up about 3/4 of an inch. This put it at 14 1/2 " from transom can't remember the percent, seems like was 34%.

Good Luck

Randy

I also didn't won't to cut the cowl, so I gave up on some speed to keep the looks of the boat. I might decide to cut later, but boat is running great. So for now I will leave it alone. You will like the way the boat runs, I have had to make a few small strut adjustment, and have tried several props. The one I am currently running is an X670 that I got from andy brown years ago. I tried the 2716 after rounding tips, wasn't bad, but the 670 seems better IMO.

Good Luck; [sm=shades_smile.gif]

The china-WTC Ron is using makes good power , but is very brittle on the "bends" .

A few braces like the old QD-WTC had will cure that , preferably bronze welded/silver-soldered on if new.

If you have acces to a good SS steel welder .... you can also do this :

hmmm... are you running a modded zen on that cat mr frezze? And if so, how fast are you going? I figure the stock engine could be a little further back, hence it doesn't have the power.

I have a whh m5 in it and it's pretty quick. I haven't gps'd it but guessing close to 60 mph. I still have tweeking to do and plan on making a few changes such as carb and changing to 105* header and different pipe. The way it runs now is up to 1/2 throttle it rides wet but after that it airs out and picks up nice and level.

The first one that I used on my Falcon broke at the bracket on the stinger and cracked up towards the flange but I can't blame it on Profession Model as I should have used an isolator at the stinger. The one on there now does have one in place. I broke another pipe by not doing that on a mono so I've learned a lesson the expensive way.

what prop is that you got on there?
It's the 3 blade aluminum prop from whh 70mm dia 1-6 pitch according to their website. I works rather well with the currant setup but I'm changing things up a bit so a new prop will be in order.

Scoot I'm switching to a 1" 105* header myself, so I will take some pics after I cut the cowl to fit. I may however mold a new pro cowl for it instead, not sure yet

I am also running the M5 up grade, with the 257 carb. I have tried several different props, 2716- X670 Put on a 6717 this afternoon and seems to like it best so far. Thought this prop would have to much lift and cause the boat to run wet but to my surprise it picked the front and held it good and level at WOT with no surprises. The 2716 I cut and rounded the tips, might try to add a little cup to see if it will help. Not sure what else to do other than trim the cowl so the 105 header will fit. I am currently running the strut aprox. 1/4" above bottom of sponsons. Rnnning all Accu Tech hardware, and boat handle really good.

Good Luck;

here's what it's looking like now, I epoxied a carbon fiber arrow shaft in the stiffen things up, and added some heat tape for good measure.

Let us know how it runs compared to the WTC pipe. I am thinking about cutting mine, if you can see a difference.

Thanks Randy [sm=shades_smile.gif]

great thread Randy, all this talk of the Falcon has made me decide to resurect my Flacon/Mercury cat[8D]

I've learnt lots since my first boat build(Mercury).

A 105 degree header and tuned pipe made a sure big differance in torque and power compared to the WTC,i think its the way to go with these hulls.

Mr Freez, Well done on the cowl mods, It helps me out heaps...ta. Wot gps readings are you now getting with the 105 and what length is the pipe set at????
I'm still undersided about cutting the cowl into a drag style or go the way you have with cutting the cowl around the pipe....decisions decisions !!!!!!!
Good job done, nice looking boat.

Just got back from lake, first time I had a new garmin Gps eTrex. Can't belive the numbers I got. the lake has a little ripple slight wind out of the east almost perfect but HOT.
Filled the 500mil IV bag with coleman fuel with 8oz hp2 and got ready to test, started out and put the 6717 that I thought was the best prop and cleared GPS. fired boat after bubble rapping the GPS and set boat in lake. Made about 8 good passes and brought boat in to check speed. Been looking forward to checking. Opened the GPS and read 50.6 top speed. Not a happy camper.
So went to the prop box and pulled the 2716 went through the same process and when I opened the GPS it read 72.7 WOW Just goes to show that just because the boat may look fast with one prop you won't know till you but the GPS in the boat.
The boat at one point came off the water flat and sat right back down without a blow over with the full cowl.
I know these numbers don't make much sense, but I have no reason to post false information. I will do more testing later just to HOT to stay out there, lake only 2 blocks from the house.

Hey randy id retest it with the first prop just to be sure it wasnt a glitch on the gps, seems odd you didnt notice the big jump in speed?.Its unlikeley that happened but you never know, congrats on hitting the 70 mph mark .You can try a 6719/3 also thats suposed to be a great cat or hydro prop.Keep us posted on your progress love to see some video
