RE: Fountain project - info needed...
if i saw your pic right your air scoops are bolted on i would make a metal backing plate to spread any load that will occure when the boat flips it will cause alot of damage to the hull . Ask how i know ! great looking build can t wait to see her run

You did miss it! There are actually 2 washers and nuts inside each air scoop epoxied into place to spread the load over a wider surface area plus the set of screws and washer to the right of the un-installed air scoop on the deck which will fasten it down onto the hull deck.
Just leaving for the pond now. Will update you guys with more info.

Not much report on but I did meet new people from neighboring cities at L27. I only have stills of the 64F comparative waterline pictures of the HULL ONLY and WET RTR HULL. It seems that I did my CG homework really well. No water penetration of any kind anywhere even from the stuffing box that was below the waterline.
As I mentioned above I only have stills because the RED wire for the terminal to the electric starter motor had broken OFF which meant I could not start the engine at all. I will do a better soldering job that it will not break off again for tomorrow's run.

What a bummer. Murphy bit you, see what I meant about the KISS rule. [sm=wink_smile.gif]
I am sure you will be back out there tearing up the water soon. Make sure you take a friend for pictures and videos. Ooh and don't forget to take a fishing pole with a tennis ball or some other safe means of retrival.

VIPER's 64F FOUNTAIN OF DREAMS - Maiden Voyage 1 & 2.
Everything ran as it should on its maiden voyage. Both engine performed well even though it was running real rich. The engines were at 1/4 throttle and would bog down if I gave it more gas. I thought I lost both props on the last turn back when I heard the engines reved higher at the end of the first run, turned out that the set screws on the coupler between the clutch and transmission had loosened off only. It scared me when I heard the engine loosened up thinking I lost both props to the propeller god.
I took the boat home after it loosened off a 2nd time on the 2nd run and tore off the tranny from the engine. I grooved the input and both output shafts of the MHZ m1570-T to accept the coupler set screws in place.

While I had the engine out, I decided to weld my pipes and headers together to avoid oil leakage inside the hull. For the lead engine I welded the header, pipe, and muffler together and for the 2nd engine I only welded the header and pipe as the muffler for it must sit out of the boat.
I would like to thank my sponsors Edward Hyoungson of Hobby Home in making this project successful and Bryan Newth of City Core Mechanical my major sponsor with his support.
The Castronovo's of Warehouse Hobbies for the first ever V3 M6 TWINLINE.
Daniel Hofman of Bonzi Sports for making the 64F FOUNTAIN OF DREAMS a reality on the Liquid Hi Way.
Johnny Zhu of Arrow Shark and Johnny Cheung of Head Of the River for their quality hardware.
I definitely feel that the boat has the potential to hit past 50 MPH but I will wait for that time when I can open up the throttle. The next big plan for this boat is to chase it in open water... The saga continues...

RE: Fountain project - info needed...
boat looks good i have a question for you though why weld the pipes i need to adjust pipe length to suit different props and water conditions this may also put more strain on the exhaust port because there is no give or flexability in the system the boats performance can be greatly afected by pipe length

I have already done my R&D for the Warehouse Hobbies power plant and Arrow Shark exhaust system. I am at optimal performance with what is on the 64F. It will ride like my RIO 51. I am not planning on changing my power plant, tranny maybe but not power plant and exhaust system.
As form flexibility of movement on the exhaust port, it still is there as I am using a no leak flange. The only real differrence in my welded exhaust system and or the once clamped system is that there are no more clamps to loosen up due to vibration which causes oil leak and poor performance.

After your finished breaking in the engines and you adjust your needle settings if you are still having a bogging issue I would consider running it carefully without the hatch. I am concerned that you do not have enough air movment under the cowl. I think the rule to follow is 1:3. In other words for every intake you need three holes to evacuate the air. Remember it's going to get very warm under that cowl and hot air equals less performance.

Leo,
Agreed, I have no problem with either air intake or exhaust air at the moment. Everything under the hatch as far as temps are concerned is good. I am however still looking around to install exhaust louvers that will fit behind the air scoop on the deck for extra security to not over heat the interior. I am planning on coming out today to do more runs to break in. Setting is still rich.

Work has really been busy and is occupying most of my time. I have removed the V3 out of the boat. Tuning two inline engines on board is really hard to do. In the process I had torn off the aluminum transmission mount. I now have to find time to make the mount in SS before I can even run it.

Here is the update on the project.
I have had to custom make a rear engine mount made out of SS which has proven to be holding. Also showing is a cooling block build for the MHZ m-1570T gearbox which has proven to be really effective in keeping the gearbox cool and the oil along with it. Both water pumps are feeding from the cooling block which has a common channel fed from the two under hull water pick-up. I have obviously disconnected the old heat exchanger line but kept the unit resined onto the hull. I will remove it once the boat is fully set up. See attached pictures.
I have also currently raised both drives and trim tabs 2* from the last run to lift the bow up a bit which I have yet to test and I am waiting on a sendec tach I bought from a fellow hobbyist on this forum to get both engines to sing on the same RPM range.
I may be over-proped at 6717 4BLR on the V3 so I will be trimming it down to 6517 so the engine can unload just a tad more. Failing this I will probably go to a 6517 or 6518 3 blade set. What are your thoughts on this?

This has been a great build to follow. I've alwasy wanted a 56" PI FOuntain but being in Australia its almost impossible to get my hands on one.
I called Marine Specialties today and they said they stopped producing the 56" fountain several years ago. Anyone know who from or where I can get one?
Secondhand would be ok.
Good luck with the running of this boat. I love the look of it. Make sure you get plenty of photos on the water.

There is the 56" PI fountain (same as Marine specialties) but I STRONGLY recommend against dealing with PI (Performance International / Blackhawkhobbies) as I have heard too many lies from them to consider them in any way reputable.
What about http://sonicracingaustralia.com up there in Brisbane? His Titan is of fountain styling. You also have Tony of http://viperhulls.com who is in Brisbane. Buying local will save you a ton in shipping plus you get to support (and the support of) a quality local builder

I have also been doing research on big boat props and have arrived to the conclusion that most single Polini or Inline Zenoah powered engines coupled to the MHZ m1570-T gearbox on MHZ fountain boats can go as big as 8015 2B or 6417 4B to achieve a minimum speed of 52 MPH.
I still have to test the newly set trim settings on the hardware and cut down prop again due to work but here are a few shots of what I have done to date. I have also bought a set of CR Octura X470 props for testing purposes which I will in due time modify to suit my needs. Both set of props are balanced but not fully polished at the moment as I have yet a few more options I can modify them into. The final outcome I would like to have is a 4 blade prop from all this testing and if that is not successful then I will at least have an Idea of what 3 blade prop I should get with my current power plant.

I finally got to test the prop mods I did and the new set up on the hardware. Both sets of props now work well but I will stick it out with using the Prop Shop 6517 4B LR. Everything ran as it should on this run, NO GPS on board. The Warehouse Hobbies' "V3 Twinline" Serial # 001 Engine direct coupled to a MHZ m1570-T Gearbox ran well with no overheating issues. The MHZ transmission m1570-T also performed well without getting hot with the custom made cooling jacket I made for it. Two under hull water pick-up pushes the water into the transmission cooling jacket where the two Walbro Water Pumps one for each engine are connected onto. Each water pump in turn cools the cylinder head, exhaust flange, and pipe it serves. The 64F uses a set of Modified Counter Rotating (Inward) 6517 4B LR propellers by Prop Shop.

Ihave finally recieved my rigid coupler from WHH and have coupled the2 - 29 CC Dominator Head Kits from Les Smith of Performance Unlimited Products which I have yet to test coupled. My preliminary test for a single 29 CC Dominator Head kit got my 64F to 30 MPH while a single M6 from WHH topped at 8-10 MPH. I am happy with 40 MPH for the size of boat and the set up I have on it but my target speed with the new power plant is 50 MPH, anything higher is icing on the cake. I will keep all my threads on the 64F up to date with the upcoming video when it starts to thaw up here.
Here is the new 58 CC Dominator Power Plant that has yet to be tested and anewno fail custom bow hook I made for any blow over.
