I started a thread in the nitro section for my scarab build that has pics of a hatch I'm building, hope nodody minds that I'm also building a KAAMA version. This thread inspired me and I've been living in my garage ever since. I look forward to seeing more pics of this gas version when it's done. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10258611/tm.htm

No, not really. My wife gave birth to our first child on Dec 15th and I was in the baby's room all of Nov/Dec getting it ready and then helping my wife the last 4 weeks. I hope to make some time later in the early spring. I just need to finished the hatch and get it patined...sounds so easy!

Glad to hear I could be inspirational. No worries on the scheme! DO IT! I thought it was a cool one too!!!

I will go check out your build in the Nitro section. If there is anything I can help with shoot me an email. I don't hop on RCU much right now with work and our new daughter!

Saw the thread! NICE WORK!!! That hatch is a thing of beauty! I should have you make me one!!!

Idea for you Trey, I can take your rear section, make this hatch I have for running Gas engines in a Scarab, flatten it out, the3 raised areas, insert your extended rear ( My mold in red tooling gel cote for a molds, and then tie them together, and toy would have a place for 3 drivers a dash with gauges ,,,, windshield, or could make 2 pieces, the sky is the limit...

Just a thought

Richard
hey Richard, I remember that hatch (or one really similar)!wow, I purchased one from Warehouse hobbies back in the late 80's when they were doing the Homelite and still offered other manufacturers hulls, one of them being a dumas 55. A couple of things I did not like about it with the 1/8 scale drivers in it, was the cockpit was not long enough front to back. Really scrunched up the drivers arms and no room for any dashboard detail. So i copied it and filled in the three top scoops so it was smooth. Added two raised engine hatches on the rear and redid the cockpit. I made it longer and angled the dashboard some.I have made several of them as I used the Dumas deck to make a52" low profile deep vee hull way back when.

I have been going through some of my old stuff recentlyand have been selling it off. I have one in theswap shop right now, posted back onMonday I think. Stillhave the mold kicking around downstairs. Didn't even think about sending one to you Richard with those other hulls and outdrive. Oh well. Here is a pic.

I also liketheold KAAMA builds. Nothing like a classic scarab build if you ask me,I love the old school stuff with the open hatches. The way offshore racing was meant to be. Wish I had somewhere to run gas boats, but I only have electric now. This one looks like a fun build.

Harvey, congrats onthe birth of your child. My wife and I just added our fifth child onjanuary 11th bringingit to two boys and thenthree girls! What a joy! (Still owe you a cigar Richard!)

Brian

Oh, forgot to mention the first one is Richards photo for comparison to the second photo which is the one I made.

Wife asked me yesterday to put the boat up for sale...hate to do it but you know how that goes! We just had our first child and the likelihood of her running it this season is pretty slim...

Too bad!!! Some one will be getting a wonderful boat.

WowI had followed this thread for a while and had to go look it up.My first build was a dumas 55 scarab.I bought it unfinnished with an OS.90 and hatch cowl iterior ect.I changed it to a homelite with a surface drive and ran it for years. The other day at a swap meet I ran accross another one that was started a long time ago and never completed. all of the extras was unused.I had to take it home.It came with this pair of OS61's and twin mount.

The outdrives are unused and someone started to smooth them out.

Everything here came in the lot with the exception of the OS.90 behind the boat.It came with my first one and I was compairing it to the 61"s

I will probably turn all ot the glow stuff and go gas with a1 into2 gear box.I have also been kicking around the idea of going brushless and detailing it out with robarts on the hatch and trim. Not sure but I though a few of you might enjoy seeing an old project come out of the wood work.

Ran her a couple of times and tore it down when we moved and my wife lost interest. Boat, hardware, graphics, and radio box are still packed. I Have been thinking about selling it but not posted yet.

Just bought one of these things used with an OPS 15cc engine.
Will install a gas engine instead.....glow fuel is too expensive in the long run.

Looks pretty stock, and the Futaba radio must be one of the new top of the line radios, as I have not seen any of them before
