Hi guys.
It was our first offshore race yesturday at Torquay,here in the U.K.Course was just over 5miles,on the sea.Finishing time was about 20mins to complete.

Some fantastic pics and challenging conditions - looks like it is an easier ride for the RC boat than the RIB though (I imagine it is tough keeping the camera steady on days like that too)

Yeah sure.We have different classes.They range from AA class through to A-B-C and D class.AA class is upto 21 size engine.A class is 45.B class is up to 67.C class is up to 90 and D class is petrol(gas). We go out in the rib get fired up,have minute or so to settle then go across the marker bouy,the stop watch is pressed then off we go!!! Fastest time to complete the course in your class wins folllowed by 2nd,3rd etc.We also have trophies for fastest time of the day and concours.

hi Omra can ı learn the procedure that you do after you do the race like cleaning etc ..

Usual maintanance really.strip engine out soon as racing finished,use fresh water(bottled water) through water jacket and lines,clean flexi shaft (WD-40)spray on running gear aswell,till I get home,then polish everything from hull to running gear.oil up engine with after run and thats it really.As long as you wash the salt off you wont get a problem.
Fuel I use is Duraglo 10%.That 20min run is about quater of a gallon on the rs91.Half hour run then its half a gallon!! Them nitros do like there fuel!!! £13 a gallon!!

What do you mean "strip out engine after the run? Do you take the head bolts out? Thats where salt will hide, even with a flush and eventually seize the bolts and ruin the case if not maintained.

Ive been running in salt water for 4 years and never had any bolts seize on my yet,i simply keep things well greased and oiled and spray down with wd40 when needed.I def dont strip the engine out after every run,maybe once a year is all.

Interesting, I hesitate to put my cat in the saltwater but as time goes on I may. Ilike the rougher waters for sure. A offshore race would be a lot more challenging. Looks like fun.

Its all about maintenance at the end of the day,ive flipped my boats in salt and not had any problems afterwards but you have to make sure you clean things well and keep them well lubricated.Nice cat by the way .

I mean by taking the engine out of the boat.like mart said,general maintenance is the key at the end of the day.We have been running offshore races for many years and not had any problems.

Oh ok, so you take the engine out at the end of running it for the day in the salt. clean everything and reinstall, gotcha.

Ive not taken mine out but i can understand why you would want to,maybe im just lazy .The main things to worry about are the coils and the wires because salt water can corode those quickly so be sure to keep them well greased or sprayed with a dialectric spray to repel water.
