The boat looks great! I wouldn't add any weight til you find somewhere larger so you can really open it up. You won't know what the attitude of the boat will be til you can try it at full speed. Doug

Thanks Doug, thats a good idea. Hopefully I wont have to add any weight as I am able to shift the fuel tank further back than where it was sitting for this run. The tank was also full, so running a half full tank and moving the tank back will move the cg further aft aswell. I've since found a couple of larger places to run, just have to work out a rescue plan for any unexpected stops!

I agree get her on a bigger lake and let her get upto speed and then see how she runs before changing anything.

Jason your boat is looking great. I have posted the video here for you so that others do not have to go to youtube to see it.

Thanks Lee, I tried to do that myself but couldn't get it to work. Do you just paste the link between the youtube bits of text that appear when you click the youtube button?

Hay Jason,

When you push the youtube button it says
you copy the web link and put it in between the two things and it will work. make sure there are no spaces or it will not show up.

Hope to see some new video soon.

Steelers For Life,

Eric lets get going on the boats. Did your son start on them yet?

Thanks for your help guys.

No new video yet. I am not happy with my rudder linkage as it is and plan to change it before I run next (binds up a little due to some mis-alignment of the holes). I also have to finish off the radio box with a permanent lid rather than just tape. Unfortunately, I am too busy to get anything much done on the boat now. I am part way through makinga stand for it which will make storage, transport and starting easier.

Still not sure what the paint scheme will be, I never intended to leave the wooden finish, but now that I see it I quite like it. So I was thinking that maybe I would paint a trim around the deck and paint the hull and sides.

Looking forward to your build!

Jason

Well, its been a while and I've got very little done. Over the weekend I decided to build a storage box for the boat to protect it. During one of our recent quakes our automatic bug spray thing fell onto the boat deck and put a dent in the deck - nothing major - just an annoyance. Here is a couple of pics of the nearly finished product - just needs some handles, a strap to prevent the lid for opening too far and some strap points inside.

I still can't decide on a paint scheme but I think I will paint the boat before its next run.

I like the storage box as well. Are you going to place some padding on the stand so the ridges of the pvc do not marr or scratch the paint and its finish?

Thanks Doug and Lee.

Its hard to see in the photo but there is some padding on the aluminium section which is supporting the boat. But, as you say, I suspect a little more may be required when the engine and hardware is in the boat. I'm certainly keeping an eye out for something the right size.

Thanks,

Jason

Well I got the boat painted today! Decided to run with all green - I might get some decals printed later when I can settle on something! The fisrt can of top coat I used was leaking at the nozzle and ended up dripping on the deck of the boat just as I was finnishing the first coat.... manage to clean it up a little and should be able to lightly sand/buff out the final imperfection from this once the paint hardens up. The green is a little darker/bolder than I was expecting, but I'm hoping its just my dark garage. Anyway, here are a few pics.
