Rx Lipo and reg vs Nimh

Hi guys.

What Rx batterys are you running. Im thinking of trying a lipo and reg in one of my boats to see if they last any longer. At the moment I'm running 6v 2800mah but they don't seem to be lasting very long at all. As in from new to useless. When they are new they last the day boating. When old they seem to really go off.

Anyone running lipo battery's in there boats for the radio?

LiFePo4 is what I use, 2S giving 6,6V, no need for a regulator. I have the [link=http://www.hyperion-eu.com/products/type/62]Hyperion packs[/link]. Tougher and less sensitive than LiPo.

LiFe are 6.6V tho....I can only run a Maximum of 6v on my Spectrum RX....Unless that extra 0.6V will not bother it.

So if i bought a LiFe 6.6v 2100Mah battery would it out perform my 5cell2800Nimh battery in time???

Your NiMh are providing more than 6V when fully charged, they charge to about 1.3/1.4V. The marine Rx will take 3.5 to 9.6V according to their web page so you shouldn't have a problem, check their web page for the specs of your Rx.
I have no complaints about battery life and the ability to charge when you come home and knowing that all is ready to go the next weekend is a huge +

I'll have a closer look into these batterys... They do seem to have some massive Plus points over Lipo and NiMh.

Sounds like something is wrong with your charger or batteries.
My boats use 300 ma/h max so a 2800 pack would last over 8 hours of continuos driving!
Mah's are the same across battery types so an 1100 mah pack should last less than half the time your 2800 pack did unless something was seriously wrong with the 2800 pack.
Most RX's are not voltage sensitive but servo's are very sensitive, make sure yours are rated for the LiFe pack.
Lastly make sure your charger is up to the job! :)

I am running A Fromeco 7.4 v 2600 mah lithium ion with a regulator....Probably can run for an hour or more. Ran a full tank through my Team pro today. 45 min. with plenty of juice left afterwards.

Hi JacK
as all the other guys have said LiFe is the way to go, I run hyperion 6.6V 2080mah pack in my Futaba 4PKs and ive just ordered some 9.9v hyperions for my futaba 3PKS radios, would not use anything else.

Bob.

I'm using LiPo and a Regulator in the gas boats and even a few electric planes/boats.
Although I am using one of many 3s packs I borrow from the electric planes. Can not count how long they last as it seems for just about ever.

Also use a 3 cell LiPo in my ancient Futaba 3PM. I do know I easily get 8 hours from a 2200 pack in the tx and only replace 1750mAh.

Doing this since 2009 with no issues. NiMh packs are old tech :D

How'd the LiFe work out?
