Dragon Boats Lucky Sprint?

Recently a buddy of mine hooked me up with this boat. I have ZERO exp with gas boats. I've used plenty of gas weed wackers and chain saws in my time, so the engine isn't entirely foreign. However, I have a few questions. The previous owner of the boat had overheating problems. He added FOUR supplemental cooling systems trying to lower temps. I'd like to return to stock/factory and start over. I may even be able to tune it to run cooler(I have nitro car exp and typically a tune could do ALLOT to solve many issues) Some things I don't understand. Why is there a fuel tube routed to the base of the carb? When I blow air through it, I think I can hear it come out of the exhaust. Is that some kind of vacuum line? The water/coolant line coming off the rudder is laying in the bottom of the hull(goes nowhere) Is that normally routed through the water jacket on the head? And lastly, can you guys direct me to a place with a manual for this thing? I've searched and found nothing but very old pics, and some kind of ancient website that looks older than AOL Thank you in advance, my buddy knows/remembers nothing about it. He gave up, I'd like to get it going again. Any suggestions would help |
My guess that it's an "eBay special" made in Asia which are cheap in more than one way. I see the TFL Hobby strut and rudder on it.
I don't think that it appears to have much air flow going through it which can lead to problems. Get us a few shots like the inside and transom. OK, your questions. I have no idea why you're hearing air blowing through the exhaust, maybe pictures would help there. Yes, the water line coming in from the rudder should be connected to the lower water fitting on the cooling jacket otherwise you can fry the engine. The manuals that come with Asian-made boats like this aren't very good as if you've seen ads for foreign-made boats on eBay are bad enough to decipher. |
Not long after posted I found a thread with a setup diagram. This allowed me to determine what's missing. The Water Pump. Apparently it was setup to use one, but the pump is long gone. I was hoping I could use the rudder water supply to cool the engine, and the other supplemental hull pickup for the exhaust. There are two additional pick ups, that resemble a jet skill water inlet. Update
I took the boat to a buddy of mine and we dove into the coolant hose configuration. Essentially, we went with the simple setup. Using the rudder pickup for the engine head, then one of the bottom pickups for the header and tuned pipe (previous owner added two, they resemble small jet ski inlets) The boat drove/ran pretty well. Not super fast, but fun. It was choppy, so that likely slowed it quite a bit. I also ran with the top off for more airflow. After several minutes I used an I.R. temp gun and it only got up around 180 F. It did stall rather suddenly, but I'd thought ahead and ran it in pretty shallow water. I barely got my shorts wet retrieving it. ;) I plan to run it more soon. It doesn't appear to need a water pump. I did richen the fuel mixture a bit, no big deal. Any suggestions for future use appreciated, thank you! |
