JW, had you looked closer, you would have seen that I was wearing a red T-shirt under that sweatshirt so there was nothing that wasn't G rated in that picture.
As for your offer, thanks but no thanks

I'll take the brunette!
Yo HJ, after looking at your pics of your proposed hull bottom change, you do realize that your raising your engine higher? Either your going to have to consider installing a belly pan or your going to have to slightly mod the cowl....

lol!!!! Good point there RJ!. I'd posted more pics for idea's. You have to say it,Dodge has the best looking color's on there car's and truck's.. Either your going to have to consider installing a belly pan or your going to have to slightly mod the cowl.... That could make the boat blow over easy.. Me I would keep the motor low to help keep the boat planted in the water better make less chances for blowovers.

Okay, lets take these one at a time:
JW, if you were refering to me on the "nice guy" comment, I do appreciate the offer. I just know the way the wife thinks and pictures don't work for her. If she can't see it, she don't get it.
RJ and JW, Yes I know the engine will be higher IF KEPT IN THE STOCK LOCATION. I prefer flexibility in my builds so the engine location is at this time fluid for balancing reasons. I also won't be using the hard wood block mount system described in the directions so moving the engine won't be an issue. One thing you have to remember is that the boat was designed for a Veco 19, a much taller engine than the OS 18 so it's not going to be as tight as it initially looks. What is of more concern to me is getting an exhaust to fit under the cowl and that may require more planning than where to locate the engine due to height restrictions.
RJ, I agree, she's definately good looking though that top she has on definately needs replacing

Some of those purples look pink! [X(] I like the "Plum Crazy" purple.
HJ, these guys are giving you a hard time for not finishing a boat. I have a couple that I have not finished; just lost interest and went onto other boats. You will need to get one done this spring to prove these guys wrong and end the craziness....

Regardless, The stock cowl does have some good head room if you need to raise the engine slightly higher. If it was me. ( i would just build it stock like I already did) BUT, if it were me, I would seriously consider the belly pan option. With drain holes of course.
far as engines, I went on ebay and found a still new in box O.P.S. .21 rear exhaust.

from the bottom of the ear on the engine case (part that sits on the mount itself) it is 2.25" from that point to the top of the cooling jacket add a little for the top of the glo-plug to stick above that, thats on a water-cooled 18TZ so it will be very close to the same as a CVRM, the GO.18 engine measured from the same points is 2" (again add a little for the plug)
If you need any more measurements just ask, Ive got side and rear exhaust headers and side and rear motors and a couple different pipes, gonna be a little hard to do a custom build with out all the parts there to mock things up. I know you have 21's there but engine case and mounting are very different than the small blocks.

Not to worry Yota, as soon as I get paid I'll be taking care of the engine problem. I've already started to work on the engine mounting issue as well so within the next week or so I should have everything on the power plant worked out. To make things nicer still, I'll be able to start assembling the frame tomorrow as well
RJ, what in the hell did someone do to that poor TA? I had one almost like that, before all the drag stuff was added though mine was the Turbo Bandit edition. The model in that shot definately makes the picture

pics do'nt work for your wife? Is she color blind? I do have a .19 Velco that will wake the dead also that K&B is a screamming meme! Ok I'd took a pics of all three engines. K&B.21 and the Velco.19 are the same hight's. .15 is 1/4"shorter. So there a 1/4 of a inc hight differences between the.19 and .15. As for the TA,that's the best thing that could happened to it. Looks great and it's prostreeted too!! Need's a 871 blower on it to make it really hall!

RE: Dumas Sport 20 Pay'N Pak Build
Well, honestly i did it for the model. Although I am a huge Pontiac fan and owning a '79 T/A 400/4speed I didnt really care for the god aweful blower sticking out of a otherwise beautiful hood such as the 70's T/A's.... On mine, i spent over 4500 bux replacing the 400 with a rebuilt pontiac 400 375Hp crate engine and various other repairs.... the damn 4 wheel disk brakes cost almost as much with those dual piston rear calipers at 250 bux each....
I've seen other car/model pics I was gonna post but this one was the most....uh....tasteful of the bunch....I didnt want HJ to get excited and ruin his project. (again)
A Velco .19 is no slouch and is a engine I would still consider. The thing about this style hull is theres not too much to work with as far as the exhaust pipe is concerned... I would NOT want a airplane style exhaust muffler sticking out the side of the cowl. Theres little room if any to run a pipe under the deck and out the transom....

That dont have a blower on it. Otherwise you would see the hole cutout for the blower drive belt. It's just has a highrise intake with a bugcatcher scoop sticking out of it. Ya, thats What I was told about the Velco.19's from the oldtimers that ran them. That K&B.21 I'd posted to fit nicely into that hull. Been working on my Dads paypak hull. The Time I get done with it it will look like the Irishmen and it will hall mail too when it's done. Dad love that boat and he's an Irishmen him self.[8D]

Okay, since I just walked in the door, I took some measurements of frame 3 and 4, top to cut line. What I found is that, using the height given in the Tower Hobbies spec section in the write up for the OS .18,
Height bottom of crankcase to top of cylinder head: 2.6" (66mm)
Height bottom of mounting flanges/top of cylinder head: 2" (50.5mm)
the engine will fit as far forward as frame 3 as the altered height is 2.75" and at frame 4 it's 3.5". As I said, there is only the problem of finding an exhaust that will fit as I don't want to go the way the directions say, just let the exhaust fill the inside of the boat but find a way to get air to the carb
I just checked the height of a NR 5 port, it would fit if there was a way to reroute the header as that engine is only 3" tall as well.
Now that we have that out of the way, back to the build[8D]

Run the Novarossi 5-port with a gear drive. [8D] This would put the exhaust straight out the back. Probably too much effort for a Dumas hull, but a cool way to run these .21 rear exhaust "car" engines... The starter belt would come right off after starting, so it wouldn't get in the way with getting the cowl on quickly....

What do you mean?
My hull built stock (for the most part) with zpoxy finishing resin before painting weighed only 14 ounces... Guys running these hulls stock with a .21 are running in the mid upper 40's.....

Depending on several factors (how the hull turns out, tune, prop, pipe, set-up, etc) with that cvrm id look for around 43mph give or take, 48-50 is do-able and if you dont see at least 35 you got something wrong lol

Just placed the order for the OS .18 and flywheel, just have to get a header and pipe, not to mention an engine mounting of some sort so I don't have to use the heavy wood blocks that came with the kit.
