Running 1:12 Elam
Hi there just wondering about something..
Iwas running my 1:12 Elam witht eh 15 dyno engine i it against an 1:12 Brushless Elam today.. Both boats wheregoing well, the nitro is completely stock besidesa 3 blade 35mm prop and was running 20% nitro. THe Brushless has 2sbattery and on 80% power..
As i was running the nitro, it wassort of keeping up, at timesin a corner it was better anddown the straight the brushless took over, but enough of that..
I brought it back to shore to fill up andkeep going but oncebackon thewater it was going greatagainuntil it slowed and stalled damn...!!!
Once on shore againI checked everything was good, full tank of new 20%(about 2 weeks old)also replaced the glow plugwith a new os #8 and sent it out again..
Did a few laps and the same thing happened. hmmm once on the shore againI reset the high speed needle point back to factory thinking it was to lean but it did the samething, checked the carb was clean and couldn't find anything so its go me stumped... NOt sure why it happened. Anyone got any ideas?

Check your pressure lines and fuel for holes.. if those are ok take the carb apart to clean it.. might have dirt in it.. if not that try to richen it up.. this all sound like she running lean on you.

You could also have a piece of carbon from the combustion process clogging the presure tap inside the tuned pipe. You could backflush the presure line and flush the pipe just to check it out. Also, make sure you have no leaks around the carb at the case bore as that could also lean the mix as the engine warms up

the same thing happens to me on the miss vegas deuce she runs like a bat out of hell for say 10 12 laps then i bring her in fill fuel up chuck her back in for a second go she goes 10 ft and dies. i did find the choppier the water the faster and better she goes but im still trying to work out the prop adjusts between chop and glass. im runnin 33% in her on a #4 stock plug. then after about the 3rd time she stalls just after launch i break out the spartan and try not to flip it end over end lol nitro is a pain but it keeps me guessing and goin back for more.

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
After such a long wait for the wind to drop off and time to spend on the lake i went back today
During the down time I've installed new fuel lines and pressure lines, stripped & cleaned the carb, put in a new glow plug, lubed the shaft, purchased new fuel&cleaned the filter.
The needleis at factory 2.5 out, and was bench tested to be working nice on30%
Took her down the lake and gave it a go withmy other boats on glass water.... well she isn't stalling anymore
problem im seeing now is that in a corner its great and going well butgoing down the straight it tends to slow if you know what i mean the sound from the exhaust isnt the same andit just seems sloweruntil i corner it a few times then it picks up but slows once you straighten it...
I was running a435/3 prop, then swapped over to a 2 blade prop which made it chug along and not going as hard as it used to..wouldthishappen from the fuel beingto rich or is thereanother problemthat I'm missing?

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
imho i have the grim prop they suggest and the 535 the 535 out does the grim but there again the right prop adjustment on whatever water your running on makes all the difference in the world. scrapped nitro put electric in deuce its so much funner and alot less hassles.

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Took it down to the lake yesturday with my other boats for some testing..
All going great with a y535 prop, was running 30% on glass water, couldn't ask for any better.
Changed to a M435/3 prop and back to the old slowing down in the straight but picking up in the corner, no matter howI tuned it.
Oh well guess the y535 prop is the best for this boat, thinkI'll order 2 more just for some spare.
Has anyone tried the boat with highnitro, like 60%? I was going to race it against the .18 formula hull to see what the difference is andwhich is faster

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Well after such a long time off the water, I took Elam, LLumar and Formula boats to the pond.
Elam was running good, LLumar was put in for a maiden voyage or break in... Its faster than Elam in standard form. Both are the .15 dynajunk, same prop same fuel, same type of glow plug etc. In a straight line LLumar kicked Elam's butt...
Formula boats is faster again than the other 2, by a fair deal. I put on the proboat metal prop on all 3 and ran them again, even better than before
all 3 boats running the same prop all on 20% and even quicker than stock plastic prop & i think the y535 prop... well for this day i guess.
On Elam i run a key chain camera to see what it was like & uploaded it to youtube.
The camera got wet once or twice and the footage dropped out for a few seconds, on the second outting it was running with LLumar but the camera was set a little high but you get the idea.
Think it might be time to do some tuning on Elam , bump the nitro or do some engine modd's like drop in the .18 to bring it up on speed

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Just wondering about an engine upgrade from the .15 dynacrap
does anyone have any good small engine's to recommend?
I was looking at an .18 os marine or the standard .18 from proboat, I know there are more like the go .18 but i think i need to make a header for that one & find the fly wheel for them....
hmm any ideas or performance upgrades would be nice

The O.S CVRM .18 or the Side Exhaust GO .18 will bolt in with little modification, and the ProBoat Header & Flywheel work with Either one.
You will need to Upgrade the Flex Shaft & Strut to 3/16"stub \.150 cable if you want to run it more than repair it

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
sweet as, i looked up power out put's. The os is a little down @ 1.3 hp on the go engine which is 1.8hp, but which is a better option in your eyes?
I think the go engine would be a little quicker but having both in these set up & running in both boats which one is quicker?
have you done any engine mods?

Stock the O.S. is the faster and easier engine to deal with. The Go Engine IMO needs the head Replaced with one designed more for Marine applications and Not Truck\Buggy, Carb needs to opened up A Lot, and Port Heights need to be raised to make it a screamer.

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
You might not like it butI got a .18 go engine in the boat now.
Just test fired it tonight so hopefully in the next little bit of timeI can spend sometime at the pond.
Its a brand new engine but found it on flea bay for cheap so I want that worried, just need to setup break it in & see some speed difference.
Yeah I'll be looking around for an upgrade to the flex cable think its a wise idea!

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Finally got sometime to go down to the pond today, the motor ran perfectly
Put down 2 tanks of fuel without missing a beat. It's much faster than the .15 dynojunk, the boat was even jumping around on the straight and getting a little loose! I haven't even leaned it out yet. This is how all proboats should have come from factory, thats my thoughts!

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Time for an update, I GPS'sthe boat on alocal lake at 33.4km/h itwas running richon 20%due to the motornot being broken in yet
After doing a total hull make over the boat is looking a little different & lighter than before
It's just been put back together & radio checked to make sure everything is working & setup.
Motor wise no changes where done. I made a new exhaust mount for the pipe that fits under it & out the way of the cowl.
Cut the nose of the capsual & theconard wing off, front & rear tipplets also got the toss, glasses up where the rear tipplets where & made my own nose & conard wings to suit the boat i was trying to copy. Sharpened the angle around the sponson to the deck, then cut the rear wing & stablizers off resized them & moved them out & back on the hull.
I createdmy own cowling for the boat the fits any 1:12proboat hullwhich ended up being 30 grams lighter then the original version
the flexshaft has been replaced but still using the proboat stut setup
I converted the control system over to 2.4g & dumped the old proboat am style radio also adding a new rechargable battery to the control box. The fuel & water lines have been replaced & new fuel filterinstalled & aproboat s/s prop was shapened & balanced
total jobwas to make the boat a little better, once it's on the water we shall see

All in all, I LIKE THE LOOK. That being said, the canard could cause you problems if it that is its final position, I would have left it in a neutral position as it may make the boat very prone to blowing over

RE: Running 1:12 Elam
Had the boat finally out of the water today.
Got some 60% nitro for it to drink
i got 32.1 km/h out of it before it was stalling on the water. couldn't throttle up at all
Once back on the bank I played with tthe hs settings a few time but couldn't getthe boat to rev up on the water so to speak. On thebank it was perfect. I tried anodonnel blue & purpleplug & both where doing the same sort of thing. Then the flex cable let go oh well i have a spare athome so a 10 minute fix &now its readyagain
does anyone know about tuning the go engines with high nitro?
