Thunder Tiger outboard anyone?
Hey all, been lookin at the thunder tiger .21 outboard. Wanting to know if anybody runs it, if so could you tell me the quality of it. Want an outboard for a tunnel I plan to build. 220 dollars sounds pretty good to me compared to the OS .21 outboard that runs about 400 dollars!!! Any advice or input about this motor would be great!
thanks Josh

RE: Thunder Tiger outboard anyone?
Modified Thunder Tiger engines did quite well in our area racing. Only a few people specialized in their modifications, though. The OS is very fast out of the box with the head shim removed. One big advantage of the Thunder Tiger lower unit is that you can run any pull start car engine on it.

How is it weird? Compared to what? I didn't know Thnder Tiger even made an outboard but if it is as good as their Pro series airplane engines it ought to be a good one.

It's got two beveled gears.. One on the motor shaft the other on the flex shaft. I figured that's probably different from other outboards but maybe I'm wrong.

RE: Thunder Tiger outboard anyone?
I love mine!!! I ran mine stock for years with the head shim removed and it ran great. I have since had the original pro motor modded on it and pipped it even more fun! I know have a TT BXR buggy motor on it and its a blast to run and fast!!! If I only knew how to post some pictures...
If you run it stock it will last for years and they are easy to tune. Now the modding is a different thing... The late Jerry Wyss has passed and his prodigy is having some difficulties so I have no idea who you could get help from or send it to,,, to get it modded... The other thing you can do is cut the water way down and burn more nitro in the TT!!!!
Now the OS is a far better and more capable out of the box but the price is much higher... Search Jerry Wyss or thunder tiger on here and you can see some of Jerry's work!!!
I can 't figure out how to put a picture on here so pm me you email if you want some of mine...

Hey thanks do postin the video! Nice run In the video to! Boat looks pretty darn fast with that outboard. By the way, I found the easiest way to post a pic is make a photobucket account, once you upload photos to it you should see a gear on the photo for the settings of it when you mouse over the image. Click on the gear then I believe one of the options is get links. When you click on get links a window pops up that has all the links to the vid. All you do is click the second one down (direct link) and paste it to the URL spot here on RCUniverse.
Hope that helps

Here is a old link to some of Jerrys work. He is since passed, his name on here was JWmods.

Not sure on the easiest way to post pictures. I just clicked the gallery link and followed the directions. Not sure on how to get the picture on the actual page.
I don't spend much time on this site. I'm on Iwaters site but figured I would come here and give Mike Walker some credit !!!

The pipe came from Australia not sure of the original maker...It is a Gadget craft!! It is now of the unobtanium sort!!! Not made anymore... I almost had another one but would have cost near 150 to get it and he still didn't want to sell it to me due to the overseas shipping... Now you can get a similar in performance pipe from Salisbury Power pipes but not as pretty!!!!

Honestly, I haven't seen in person a TT OB motor that ran worth a hoot! Maybe it was the owners who didn't set them up correctly.
The simple way to post pictures in this site is to hit the "Reply" (upper right-hand corner) in any previous posting in this thread, preferably the one before yours and not to use the normal reply box. That will open up a whole new area where you will see where you can upload pix from your computer.

RE: Thunder Tiger outboard anyone?
You are right Ron way easier toupload that way!!!!
Yes the TTtakes a bit to get it to go fast or good. Most peoples mistake is they are affraid to raise the motor. The TTweightismuch more then the OSand needs to be up a lot higher. On my TS3 I had it at 1/4'' and the OS calls for 1/8th.. Get it up, cut the water, hot plug with a richer needle and watch her fly.
