Default Dumas Hawk picco .21

new to boating, purchased this boat and have a few q's and issues

hull came with no rear sponsons, seems to ride quite low, are they necessary and/ or can they be gotten ?

the motor is a .21 picco, rear intake, front exhaust, seems to run great... to me
would prefer to have front in/rear out
is it best to go with the same size 21, can i go to a 28 or bigger or is it best to stay the same?

how can i tell what prop is on it now as i see no markings

im guessing it runs av 60 mph and of course would like to get more...

next project is a JAE fe but im starting to enjoy this one.

You can make rear sponsons from insulation foam, 1/16" plywood. That boat was designed to run with rear sponsons.

You could run a .28 in the boat. The only problem might be the engine width and mounting screws location.

A larger one would depend on which one that you get. Nova Rossi does have a slightly larger one, a .28 I think that is supposed to be really fast. Nova Rossi does have a new .21 coming out by late summer to early fall that is running in the 80's in race trim and over 103 in a SAW setup in early testing.

in running it yesterday  i noticed it wanting to rotate left sponson up/ out of the water @ higher speeds, i assume rear sponson would help stabilize thatt.

it has a octura 1450 on now, i know from my full sized boats for more highs tweak the pitch a bit, would a 1650 be a good prop to try and step up with ? or any other suggestions ?

that lifting will stop with the proper turn fin. Like this one. http://zippkits.com/~zippkits/index....roducts_id=228

the fin is bent to help keep you from lifting. or getting air under the hull during a run. lifting the fin in the back will bring you back down ,it's adjustable. for that reason. THE .12-18 style fin will work too. Anything other than the Pressey fin. Or try bend the bottom inward. As far as rear sponsons the left side is wider than the right, why the left rear sponson is wider to help in a turn. Will it run with out? more weight = slower boat. One buoy hit and the sponsons are gone. Not so with JAE rigger - change the boom tubes and get back out their. If you like the Hawk you will love the JAE more.

The rear sponsons are made to help hold the rear up in the turns and the port one is larger than the starboard sponson. Gary's designs use his theories on sponson design. You may also notice that each of the front ones aren't the same either.

yes i see the fronts are different, NOW im dealing with a cracked sponson tube after clipping a bouy.... and dont look forward to digging out the rod out of the sponson.
and ideas where to find custom sized carbon fiber tubes ? or is it easier/better to redo with alum ?

ive also bought a zipp medium turn fin but yet to run it.
thanks for all of the suggestions and experience.....
