RE: Unofficial Nitro Hammer Thread
Really just posting to bump this thread back to the first page.
My son and I took the NH to the lake today. It ran well and nothing broke, so it was a good day. I had to fatten her up a bit because the weather is in the 90's here, and the water was too warm to cool her well. I really need to get a bigger tank for this thing. Just an eighth of a turn out made the run times pretty short.
I followed some advice here and raised the rudder/rudder assembly up about a half inch. It made a noticeable difference. I also drilled a few small holes in the hatch (above the carb) and that seemed to help as well. Thanks folks.
The more we run my son's Nitro Hammer, the more I like it.

RE: Unofficial Nitro Hammer Thread
LOL...I was comin in tonight to bring this TTT......
We broke the boat in yesterday.Got 3 tanks through her before it started raining....We made no needle changes for the first 4 tanks...This morning we chopped 1" off the rudder(not sure how you guys are moving them up) and sharpend the bottom of the rudder and turn fins razor sharp.Bent the trim tabs up so there not pushing the bow down.Added a little swim noodle for some flotation.Added 4 screw to the radio box to seal it better than that cheesy pin.Wetsanded the wetted surface of the hull with 400grit just to dull the finish.I cut a small hole in each of the windshields....I believe the vacuum effect of this will draw the hot air out without me worrying about consuming someone else's spray.....I also made 2 small holes where the front of the canopy strarts the 2 vee's.
With the above done all i can say is wow very impressive...After some runs getting the mixture right...We put the slightly modded Vegas out and the Hammer at the same time....Amazingly the Vegas was faster but its did it on the very topend and the turns...The hammer stayed not far behind.....The biggest problem the Hammer had was the wake off the Vegas.....The hammer got its stickers washed a few times...lol...I seen the bottom of it a few times..lol....Always recoverd nicely...The hammer also took alot of spray and never hiccupped....
When we got home after cleanup we pulled the head off the hammer and pulled 2 of the 3 shims...Will see how that works possibly tomorrow...
Also built boat stands for the 2 boats.....Way better than the ones that came with the boats...[8D]
Will have another boat here Tuesday and on the water with it soon...

RE: Unofficial Nitro Hammer Thread
Same reason you never wax the pad of any boat big or small......The idea is to create air under the boat or air bubbles....The more air you can get underneath a hull the faster it will go...A boat will always be faster in small chop rather then glass.....When its glass it acts like a suction cup.....If you have ever been to any type of boat races go look at the bottoms of the boats...There will be a dull and possibly rough surface on them...
Just to clarify...Big boat races....I havent been to a any RC boat races so im not sure there...I figure if it works for the big boys it cant hurt the little ones....[8D]
