RE: Unofficial Nitro Hammer Thread
on the hammer i use the nylon type, it sets quicker & bonds to the hull well. epoxy takes too long to set if you want a good job. only problem is the nylon one stinks a lot. 5 minute epoxy won't last in the long run.

i don't think so, that speed is just too much for this little thing, 30's mph maybe attainable...stock runs 20-25 mph.

It seems like that hull is a polyester lay-up but I'm not sure.
Now go ditch that stand and make one out of PVC pipe to set it on. The problem is that the hull is bouncing when pull-starting the engine on the stand. Hold the engine down when starting it to help prevvent any more cracking.
If it isn't serious, put a little thin CA in the crack.

RE: Unofficial Nitro Hammer Thread
got my boat out today for the first time of any length. It ran good. I ran three tanks of fuel through it. Im still trying to get used to the tunning of a boat over a car. and its been interesting. Should i be checking the temps like you do on a car? My boat was running about 180 degrees. Its darn cold outside, probably in the upper 30s when I had it out tonight.

RE: Unofficial Nitro Hammer Thread
I have been doing a little work on my hammer and thought I would share some pics. I put a bigger fuel tank in (4oz), and put a new rudder setup with built in water pick up. I got rid of the stock water pickup and filled the hole in the bottom and sanded smooth. I took out the car engine and put watercooled engine back in and that left me with the big hole in the hatch so I made a scoop to cover it. I know it may not look the best but, it looks better than the big gaping hole that would otherwise be there, it will have to do for now because I can't find the hatch in stock anywhere. Enough rambling here is a couple pics of progress so far.

RE: Unofficial Nitro Hammer Thread
Hi there just got a hammer here in the uk still running it in but on the 3rd tank i let my 5 year old son have a steer. He was doing great till i looked away and then proceded to smash it into the wooden side of boat pond ooooooooops. Anyway am in the process of repairing the front end but while i was at it i decided to make a scoop as well, i got the bottom of a 2 ltr coke bottle and cut out one of the bumpy bits and have covered this with p40 and sanded it down. This is looking ok if you had more patiance than me you could make a great scoop.

btw, i was in the pond this pm, just ran 2 fuel tank for break-in, this OS .18 cvr is very easy to run, it keeps goin and goin like energizer, though i didn't push hard but lot of juice with this motor, the rudder is very much streamlined and creating less drag compare to the stock, i thought my trim tabs are overkill size but it make the boat pretty stable, bow raises as the speed picking up and it will just stick on there no porpoise, i used the stock prop and pretty obvious it's under prop now, need to put bigger one...i'm not sure if the motor is really loud or the tuned pipe i'm using that makes it loud, now i need a muffler, i don't wanna kick-out from the park pond i'm running boat[:-]..i'l try to complete my break-in tomorrow before the cold temp. set-in.....i remember when i newly got this and first time to run this hammer i'm so frustrated coz i spend more time pulling it to start and fishing it back because it stall.[:@][:@]

The CVR-M or even the AQU18 is a louder engine. Though a Macs Tuned Pipe will be a bit quieter, it can get costly. As for teh scoop, I made a wooden mold from a piece of balsa block from the LHS and a piece of plastic from the LHS that can be bent with heat. Scroll back and you will see it ( the red and silver boat w/ the checkered flag sides) The scoop is a little bigger than scale, but works very well. The nice thing about the plastic is, you can bend it and shape it however you want.
