Hi Everybody,
I’m new here and I’d like to know if someone tried this before.
When I bought the Nitro Hammer I was pretty disappointed. The tank wasn’t air tight, and the low speed needle was so tight that the boat wouldn’t run at all when I took it out of the box. It was my first boat, after several nitro buggies, so I wasn’t aware that this boat couldn’t stand still and idle in the water. Also I didn’t know that it only has cooling for the engine when it’s moving. So before I even broke in the engine, I took the boat apart and customized it to my expectations.
First I put in a clutch from a buggy that I modified with an aluminum part, so that I can connect it to the shaft.
Then I put a nitro fuel pump in there to have cooling of the motor at all times.

It all works well and it is fun and easy to drive.
interesting[sm=thumbup.gif]..let us know how's goin[8D]

i've replaced the tank with one outof a stadium truck as soon as i realised the stock one was leaking, as soon as i swapped the tank out my tuning hastles went away. i was surprised at how well the engine did hold a tune withthe right tank in there.

What power source did you use with it?

don't bother with the aquacraqft distributor in oz, go straight to tower hobbies.
Yes LHS was no help also, just ordered a coulpe of parts from Tower Hobbies.

Some people have no idea with hobbies, I wondered why the rudder had a lot of movement in it.
Took it off and found out the guy who owned it before me must have had troubles with rudder sticking and instead off just using a bit of wet and dry on it he cut big pieces out of it with and knife.

New rudder is on back order with Tower Hobbies.

I just connected it to the batteries of the receiver. Runs without problems. Sure it would pump much faster with 12v but the cooling the motor gets from 4.8v is perfect.

Why do you want the boat to stand stll in the water? you have added unneeded weight, and robbing power from tour reciver battery is a huge no no. The biggest issue with the hammer is getting it trimed corectly and even then it is not very stable.

Why I want it stand still in the water? My main reason is that I want all my Rc stuff as close to the real thing as possible. And a real Boat engine wont die if you try to stop with the boat. I am also able to take of much quicker, because the engine revs up before the clutch engages.
And about the trim you mentioned, funny thing. Being forced to mount the motor a little further to the front gave me a much more stable ride than before. And about adding weight, this sullivan pump is for Airplanes. Believe me its very light. Also the whole Clutch assembly is not heavier then the flywheel it replaced. I can't see the point of not being able to use power from the radio batteries.Works fine for me.

Don't know how to ask this question without sounds like a noob... but here goes.

I rang a guy here in Australia about getting a Octura prop for my hammer.
Asked about get a Octura X-432 or X-435.
He said a Octura X-438 would be a lot better, so I said ok.

I gave him or the measurements.
drive shaft hole dia
prop dia
pitch
boss lenght
boss dia
deep drive dog slot
wide drive dog slot

The Octura X-438 measurements are different.
I thought the new Octura prop would be bolt on, same measurements as standard..............??
Am I wrong, should it be bolt on or am I meant to mod drive shaft etc,

Thanks
Dave

Dear Noob......err, Dave. Don't sweat being new to boats as we all were at one time.
Probably what your problem is that the larger props won't fit the shaft as Octura props over 35mm have a 3/16" hole in the hub and those under 37mm have the 1/8" holes.
The boat might not be able to turn the 438 very well. We've tried larger props on them and they really load the engine. If the boat had a surface drive insted of the sub-surface then it would be able to.

yup Dave, Ron is correct.

a 438 is too much prop for the Aqub .15
the shaft size on the Hammer is 1/8 and all the other props you mentioned 432, 435, 438 are 3/16.

you could however try a y535 from octura, made for 1/8 shaft but than again I'm not certain it would fit.

The spoiler might make the front light at speed or the tail heavy, whichever way that you want to look at it.

chine walking will be corrected by adjusting the trim tabs, make sure the vertical fin is at 90 degree to the surface bottom of the hull, the horizotal fin should be parallel to the hull bottom again not too low or high and this can be adjusted by bending it up or down in a very small increment, bending down puts the boat bow down and will run wet and bending it up is the vice versa....u might make extra trim tabs with different sizes and test it and pick the best one....btw, chine walking is very common to v-bottom boat...happy boating.

Is there anyway I could make the prop fit.
Only way I see is to silver solder a solid piece in and redrill it but them the balance would probley be out.
Just don't want to see the prop go to waste.
