I find it very questionable myself. Considering a very low amount of prop slippage of 15% with an X-440 prop you'd having to be turning the engine in excess of 40,000 RPM.

i run a fully mod by ebmods OS .18 with a x440/3 with 40% nitro and i cant even get the boat up to full speed with out a blow over. I say over but really it just takes off

and my llumar is not even breaking 50

I ran the O.S. Max TZ 18 Truck engine in a Miss Vegas preproduction hull. The boat probably did around 42/43. I have a Miss Vegas w/O.S. Max 21 VZM(an IMPBA legal 20 Sport Hydro) and it's not doing 60.

Notice I didn't say a 60 mph Miss Llumar isn't possible. I just stated what I've been able to accomplish.

Some one has out dueled JD? I swear I just saw a pig fly by, and my feet are getting awfully cold from hell freazing beneath them. But in all seriousness, great looking boat, and congrats on the speed you have achieved.

Redneck, I'd like to know how it was determined that the boat does 60, radar gun, approved race course or time trial event?
I sure wouldn't be trusting a plastic prop for those speeds otherwise it would become shrapnel.
Did you buy this boat off eBay and the owner said that it would go 60 MPH?
Seeing how you're showing your address as in Washington state, I'd bet that Jerry would love to see it run as it would be a record setting boat if any of the sanctioning bodies had a class for it.

maybe I am missing something as I am new to rc boats but I cant keep the front end down on my miss lumar with an os.18 with the rotary carb. The front end just tends to rise out of the water after about 100' of straitaway and then she gets to rocking back and forth at about 150' and you better let off or turn or she will wreck. I have played with some weight up front, only about an ounce but I have the battery, a 2cell 700mah lipo above the tank which is quite a bit different than stock. With the weight it does better but I still think if my pond was big enough for a 300' straight it would blow off the water every time if you held it open, especially into any wind at all. Since I cant keep the front on the water anyway, what good would the steps do if any on this 60mph boat? I would think that would just get the front up higher, catching more air than stock and make even 50mph nearly impossible. Its hard to tell but without a radar gun or another boat to run against that is close to the same speed any changes I make are hard to tell if the boat slowed down and that is what makes it more stable or if I kept the speed I had or improved upon it a little and made the boat handle better, many times I think my changes may have just slowed it down enough that it doesnt get out of control. If any of you experts dont want to post on the thread PM me if you got any ideas for me to go faster while under control with my miss llumar.

Prop depth and strut angle play a critical part in determining the ride attitude of a hydroplane. Lowering the prop will lift the back of the hull(and cause the bow to ride lower). From what I have seen, the struts on the Llumar and "Officially Licensed" version of the Miss Elam are non-adjustable. Octura Models makes an adjustable strut for 15/18 hydros. At some point in the future, the adjustable strut for the Miss Vegas will be available.

thew speed was determined with 2passes in a 100 ft speed trap and a stalker radar gun from a king county police department motorcycle. the boat picked up almost 6 mph by just removing the hovizontal and vertical fins. the boat handls ok at speed if it is in glassy water but it gets loose in chop. also if there is more than a breeze and a good chop you cant get up on plane without the nose diving under. FYI the hull is not stock it was reshaped and trimed be a gentleman named Dean Chew. he raced F1 tunnles on the east coast about 4years ago and he designed and built his own boats. he helped my design different steps and sharpend the bottom of the sponsens.

i am on duty for the next 2 days but when i get to go home i will tak pics of the bottom of the hull. by the way the reason the hull looks like crap is that i am testing new ideas on this hull then when i am satisfied with the handling i will apply the knolage learned to my 1/12 miss bud and make it look nice and maby try to make it stock looking with out the wings. alot of people have the miss buds and lumars back home in florida so it would be cool to go home with a stock looking bud and out run the old guys that think there goin fast with a os12 and a metal prop. the steps are made of thin plastic stuff just glued onto the bottom of the ride pads that are sanded and sharpened. the two sides of the hull are not even the boat has a warp in it that was porposely put there that help the boat stay on the water and counteract the torque when the boat lifts out of the water.also the steps are different lengths, it helps the back break loose in the turns witch keeps it from bleeding the speed off. i also wave a 5cell nicad in the right front sponsen it just helps with the balance.i also found that the stability and handleing are all in corolation with the CG. if i am running in allitle rougher water i can move the CG fwd it hepls keep the bow down in the wind plus i can lower the strut in the water and it also helps drop the bow. if i am running in glass or light chop with little or no wind i can move the CG all the way back to 2 1/4"and that is where i get the most speed.

60mph? Are you sure it wasn't Km/h?
My buddies .18tz (car/buggy engine) outrigger only does around 48-52mph when it was around.

I want to see video, and don't give any excuses if you are able to get a speed trap and radar gun!

Excuse me ? It's the first time I've seen anyone come up with speeds breaking well known racers/designers ect. And this is the first time I have demanded video! Where else have you seen me demand video?

YA, I must know a lot! ?????? I don't get it?

Know something interesting about model boats on video? The boats appear to be going about twice as fast as they really are. Well, maybe 1 1/2 times as fast.

Radar gun readings can also vary greatly. Anyone posting "dubious" speed claims is open to being challenged by other members of this forum. If you don't want to feel the "heat," don't start a "fire."

I've seen my boats/cars/planes on video numerous times, and they seem to look as if they are going the same speed as if I were there.

I strongly believe it depends on how much background behind the boat is visible in the video. Or perhaps it is just a video "illusion."
