I tried a y 535 metal, a 435, and the stock plastic prop.
when I did the 2 laps, I had the 435 on.
It is very hard to get it started, where it didnt use to be.

I also have been having to change out the glow plug after a few tries.
How much time do you have on the engine? If it is new, it needs to be run on the rich side for four or five tanks. If it is a new engine and you are burning plugs, it sounds like you are trying to run the engine too lean.

This last piece of information is another sign of lean/hot running. When I push my engines hard by leaning them to the fringe, glow plugs only last a heat or two. If I keep them a bit fat (rich) they last considerably longer.

Running too lean...... That was my problem this weekend. I burned up 3 A3 plugs in 3 runs at 4 laps each. I continued to turn down the HSN until the the problem went away. I should probably turn down the HSN another 20-30 degrees depending on the temp.

It was a good weekend though all together.

Yes, I was in Wichita yesterday, we have the yellow and orange ones with Eeyore taking a leak on them.
Even tho my boat didnt run, we had a blast !
The yellow one has had at least a gallon and a half thru it.
It was fine untill our fun day here in Oklahoma City a few weeks back, since then it has been like this.
I have tried adjusting the mixture, in each direction at least 1 1/2 turns. 1/8 th turn at a time, starting at about 2 1/2.
50% fuel, McCoy #9 plugs

are you getting a lot of black gook comming out of the pull start area, the hole the string comes through? sure sounds like you have a air leak some place. remove the engine, take the glow plug out and turn the engine over by hand. do you hear a pop or feel a slight amount of tension? this would be from the intake side. check the carb and make sure it is tight. I had a issue with my pull starter getting a lot of black goop splattering out. hard to put into words but I tuned this area up a bit.

I may be out to lunch but mine was doing this at one time and found the culprit was the fuel tank.
once the engine was running the fuel cap was not keeping its seal, even replacing the "O"ring didn't help, so I installed a new style fuel tank, problem solved.

But check everything else that the guy's told you about.
if you find a greasy white residue on the fuel tank or around the cap, that is a sign of a leak.

Hey Dan and Terry,

I rigged up a water jug and bench tested the new fuel tank tonight. I set the carb to a barely open setting and it ran great. It ran perfect until i shut it off about five minutes later. Thanks for all your help. I'd still be on the dock if it weren't for you guys.

Your welcome but it's mostly Dan since he has more computer time it seems

He and I have had a lot of experience with these boats and we run really hard against each other he is as hooked as i am.He's a great guy and will help anyone.

We are newbies but have a lot of bugs worked out and have put several gallons through ours.

The prather small couplers have worked the best for us and you can cut them in half and make 2.

Terry,

What do you mean by the Prather couplers? Is that how you water cool the head when its not in the water? I just took a milk jug and drilled a hole in the cap for a piece of fuel tubing to fit snugly. Then I unhooked the metal tube from the transom and hooked it up the jug. Just turn the jug upside down and you have your gravity feed water pump. I am a poor college student from Kansas, so its just hillbilly engineering.

Ha Ha,

I use some tubing that I bought at the hobby shop. It is about 3/8 in. thick and I got a foot of it. I had trouble with the stock couplers burning up on the port side. I wasn't running it lean as I tried several settings. This stuff doesn't burn though.

Your welcome rev,
what can I say, I do have more computer time, I don't need to spend the extra time on the work bench working on my Vegas so I can catch the other boat. LOLOLOL

I have the head pulled off, the piston and cylinder are wasted.

I should of known the answer,
with the 3 of us running the Vegas it happened twice with same problems that you had and the culprits were the piston and liner.

[] To Mr.Jerry,Ron Olson,Redbullvegas, or everyone in here my beloved Vegas Fans,

In terms of upgrading, which engine shall I look forward into that suits my Vegas for later upgrading wise. The problem is,here in Malaysia the options are limited whereby I couldn't get any other brand or type of inboard marine engine besides OS engine.

I thought to replace my stock engine to OS .18 CVR-M engine for upgrading but before that I have to look into many aspects such as the drive system, coupler, etc. Here in my country our local hobby shops does not offer much or even sell any relevant drive system such as drive shafts, drivedogs, propellers for RC marine.Very hard for me to get those necessity. Any opinion that would help are very much appreciated.Thank you so much to Mr.Jerry Dunlap for your previous reply.I admired you as one of the world's greatest and earliers leading marine RC old timers !! Wishing you very best all the way.

The O.S. CVR-M is the easiest way to upgrade the engine. All the existing componets on the Miss Vegas - drive system, coupler, exhaust system will work with the CVR engine.

Well, in a earlier post (#1094) Jerry has his Vegas setup with a OS .18 TZ, reaching approx 46mph.
some guys run .21 also from OS (I believe).

a lot of parts from Octura, flex cable, cable collet also fit the Vegas and with the new upgrade to the Vegas (bigger cable, better strut and new cable collet) this will make it easier for engine upgrades.

Has anyone actually run the TZ .18 with the water cooled head from the CV-RM? I saw some talk about it on page 44-45 but haven't heard any results. Is the inside of the head the same on both engines? Does it make a difference that the TZ is a turbo & the CV-rm is not as far as the head is concerned? Also would the Mac pipe work with that engine as opposed to the car/truck pipe that JD used?
Thanks for any additional info on this!

That's easy. Octura makes the drive dog and has the prop nuts that will fit on your cable. Chris Fine at www.finedesignrc.com has them among other people.
