RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
thats not the front compartment though there is one in front of that!! i also sealed that one and either side of the tank and filled with foam for bouyancy.i left the centre bay open and cut a hatch for the tank bay.its quite a large bay and you can get a large tank in there and its perfectly positioned for balance also.it wouldnt be too hard to cut a hatch in there if you want to!! i just made sure the rails were raised up to the deck to make it water tight in front and either side of the tank.i just glued some plywood pieces in place to do this and it worked great for me.might be an idea for you to try.also uncle crash has it right you need foam in there just in case the hull gets cracked or even if the sealed compartment isnt as water tight as you thought.if you want to cut a hatch just drill a hole in the deck where the hatch is going to be then mark it out between the rails do it slightly narrower so you wont cut into the rails and use your jigsaw to cut it out then once youve tidied it up make some supports round the edge of it to support the lid and fit a lid.there are lots of ways to fasten the lid down and the tank bay doesnt need to be water tight just a snug fit will do.my rails were about half an inch or so lower than the deck so i epoxied some ply to the inside of them upto the deck so it was sealed then the forward bay and the side bays either side of the tank are water tight.thats plenty of bouyancy especially as they are all filled with foam .

to place pictures in your post . first you have to reply or quote any message in the string, that means on the top right corner of every post there is reply / quote / find icons just click on the reply or quote and you will get the blank message screen with the option at the bottom to load pictures. good luck and good boating.

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
right ignore the pics, just having a try ,
the old engine you see has been tuned by myself and screams like a scalded cat, the water jacket (home made) as you can tell has had a better version fitted but that one did the job, when i was doing my testing,
right now to see if my pics are there
Thanx

right hey presto a Tuned pipe!!
now dont all shout HEY thats great! at once!!
well i tried playing old macdonald had a farm on it but its not got a lot of tune to it
hopefully it will be louder and give more speed even if its not rocket boost
just dont have the money to buy one at the minute
but its surprising what you can do with tin snips and blow lamp with some solder[&:]
its got an expansion chamber on this one -more than can be said for my mousse can muffler
and i fitted a pressure nipple for my fuel tank so that can only help as well
just need to get it to the waster now for a run

Only thing I see is the pipe preasure fitting should be placed at the widest part of the pipe for the best pressure, constant also. Hope it has a better note than the last one it kinda sounded like a water, plane pipe. Dave
PS it also looks a lot nicer.

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
pressure nipple placing --DOH!! guessed it would be somewhere where i put it! just went by the one in the pic
i'll just solder over it and put another hole in!! lol Cheers!
the solder i use is that thick plumbers solder on a big reel -needs to get REALLY hot b4 it melts i.e blow torch with blue flame or i use my hot air paint stripping gun! 1500c degrees
yes i agree it looks a bit more pro!
should sound better[>:]

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
its only steel from a 25 litre paint thinners drum
but when its soldered to a cylinder shape you cant pressit in with your fingers
i figured i'd coat it up with some BBQ paint to stop it rusting on the outside and the castor from the glow fuel should do the job inside!

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
It looks alot thicker, than an old tin , i would not bother moving the pressure fitting ,you will have about the same pressure wherever you have it ,have a look at some traxxas trucks the pressure fitting is right next to the manifold

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
hello mr fixit i saw the photo of the mounts you fixed in the manner you fitted them they are useless as the vibriation will pass through the bolts the mounts must be with bolts [studs ]on each side moulded to each end of the mounting .generally i use mounts that i buy from rc shops but if you want certain cars use them for air cleaner box units and the cost small money in malta about 3-5 bugs
i saw your nice hull i admire people who build there boats as these are true boaters .you learn through errors and time hells the scars.
by the way graupner have a rudder with the same idea you invented as own one .i,m not sure about the pin 1st its small ,2nd metal to alluminium the metal always eats the alluminium try to fit a small pipe so that the pivot works in it like a bush .length is also an issue .
the flat bar you used as a stand make holes in it to reduce weight as you have a small engine.

Graham on this boat the Centre of Gravity, do you put a pivot point 30% from the transom then balance it with all the hardware in??

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
Hi tasmaniaboats
yes my motor mounts arnt great but they are holding up ok and everything was fibreglassed aswell so im not to worried
and my rudder as well -now ive done one the next will be better
as regards the COG i fitted all my hardware loose first and marked 30% from transom then balanced it with moving the engine
sits real nice on the water

RE: First build -first boat deep vee plans
yes thats what messed up my tank space -i had measured it out to sit behind the engine(nearer the front of the boat)
but when i balanced it it moved the engine back from where i guessed it would go
the space left was 1" to small for my large tank i had planned for it!
sadly im away this weekend[]
but if i can get the pipe on in some way -i may try to run it friday if i can sneak out with my wife knowing hehe!!
i only have to change 1 piece of pipe on the header pipe i have to fit it for a rough trial- maybe even tomorrow!!
i have no idea about tuneing the pipe in or what lenth to start the header at
so i'll start long and get shorter! lol
once i get something done -im itching to try it
i'll be driving on my own this time-when i took the video my wife and 2 children were there
so they all had a drive after the race- yep even my 2 yr old son was driving the boat [X(][X(]
even my wife loved it
