Default Soldering clevis to control rod?

So one end of my control rod is threaded and then I cut it to length. I have some solder on clevis, but my luck soldering thus far has been 0%. Any recommendations for a good silver solder and good flux. I'm not sure the stuff I have is worth anything at all.

Thanks,
Steve

Default RE: Soldering clevis to control rod?

You should be able to solder that with regular plumbers' solder. Sand the end of the rod, dip it in flux, insert into clevis, position clevis so that rod end is slightly elevated, heat clevis with a heavy duty soldering gun or small butane torch. Keep testing the temperature with the solder..... touch it to the rod with the solder every few seconds until it starts to melt. Once the solder starts melting, let it wick all the way thru the clevis then remove heat and solder wire.
