Yes, you can build a Newton Marine boat larger, but it requires considerable re-engineering. You are talking about a 1/6th scale boat, so you need to blow the plans up to 134% and add additional bulkheads between the ones shown. This can be done at pretty much any blueprinting shop. As for engines, plan on a G260 if you want any kind of speed out of your project. As far as hardware, you can use 1/4" drive lines and struts, but beyond that, you're kind of on your own. One other thing, you will have to fabricate everything as far as the hull, cowling, tails and, if needed, dummy engine since they are not commonly produced items. Hope this helps
BTW JD it's spelled C Z A R

This boat is 60" long, powered by a G230 and only get's up into the 20-30 MPH range. This does show the possiblities for detailing, which can really make or break the appearnce of a large boat

Hydro: Almost forgot, wouldn't it be NICE to install a true replica of a Allison or Merlin. You probably already know this, but go to:
www.dynamotive.netfirms.com/merlin/ It's way out of my leaque, but still it's availible.

Hate to say it but the "Charlie" isn't mine. A friend of mine built it to race with in a 1/6th scale class we were trying to set up. We found the boat to be hard to handle, hard to launch and not even up to "scale" speeds, which was the whole idea. This boat is now on display at the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum in Kent Washington, probably never to see the water again.
Just for the record, the dummy engine is an Allison 1710.

Aussiebud, I see you know your boats. I believe that is a 1/10th scale electric built by the same one that built both of the Wildroot Charlie's. If it is the 1/10thg scale electric, you can probably get a glass hull through the E-R/C U website, www.e-rcu.org or, if it's a 1/8th scale nitro boat, you can get plans from www.newtonmarine.com. You would have to order plan set 108E and get the Rolls Merlin sheet as well. Either way, you will need the color sheet from that set, since he doesn't have set with the VS-22 graphics.
Sorry misshydro, but that boat isn't big enough. It's only 59" long and 1/6th scale. You would need a hull that's 1/4th scale, or 7.25 feet long.

I know about the colors since I've seen the boat since it was returned to the U. S. What I was getting at is you will need to do your own lettering, either hand done or decals to match the boat. From what I've heard, the plan is to restore the boat to it's 1971 Pride Of Pay'N Pak configuration and paint scheme.

Nope, it was only the cabover in 1970. After the 1970 season, crew chief Jim Lucero converted the boat to a front mounted Merlin engine with the cockpit arrangement you are familiar with. There were some changes made by the Budweiser crew after they received the boat after the 1972 season, but nothing in the general appearance other than going from an orange/gold paint job to the gold/red/white paint the Miss Budweiser sported through the 1994 season.

Being from the Seattle area, I've had the opportunity to talk to, work with and learn from several of the sport's "elite's", for lack of a better term, not to mention working on a few boats from the past. Compared to people like Fred Farley(hope I spelled his name right), what I know would fit on the head of a straight pin.
